IT may be that our own minimus is depressed. How are ya doing Minnie? At times I still get depressed and I have been out for 5 years.

I know for fact that many of them have mental health issues, but of course it is a taboo like everything else among witnesses

I'd be depressed too, if I spent as much time in a Kingdom Hall as they would like you too, with no windows, no fresh air, and no light! It's SADD! And add the 'boring' repetitious talks on top of it, and it could start a man drinking! and possibly a woman .

I agree w/ Blondie. People who are sad and depressed are looking for something, so they are ripe for the JW picking.

It is a catch 22 really. JWs will tell you that you can never be happy in this system of things (yes, that is what mother says all the time), so it is only natural to be sad. Only those who love Satan's wicked system of things are happy because they are rejoicing in evil (yup, mother once again). So you see, if someone tries to figure out the root of their unhappiness, they are told it is only natural to be unhappy and not to look for things outside the org because it will only make them unhappier.

Years ago, JWs were told to pray, even when it was known that the person was really mentally ill. Because if you were strong w/ Jah, he would help you thru times of hardship. I think the old school elders still go by this theory. The younger guys don't have time to deal w/ the crazies and tell them to get heavily medicated. Either way, it is a bad spot to be in. JWs are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Poor souls.

Yep, depression is a natural byproduct of too many rules. No matter what you work on there is always something of equal importance that you forgot about or didn't get around to and one more reason to feel that you just don't quite measure up. Then, with most of the "brethren" putting on their "happy" face whenever around other witnesses, one feels even more imperfect and even more worthless.

Oh, but that's not all. No, for those with a genuine love of their fellow man there's the six billion wicked people to be killed. You can think about them the next time you're out shopping and don't leave a tract with that person behind you in line. You can think about that the next time you sleep in on saturday morning. You can think about that the next time you can't quite figure out how to make that return visit or stir up the interest in that person who took a brochure.

Yep those hypocrites on the governing body of jehovah's witnesses have plenty of ways of keeping the faithful in line and depression is one of their mose effective.

My mom takes antidepressants with her beer. That is messed up. She tells me "Can you imagine how messed up my family would be without the TRUTH???" Mental illness, serial divorcing, alcoholism, suicide, murder, spousal and child abuse, bankruptcy, etc-many of us have had some of those issues touch our family or friends at some time-but ALL those issues-One family all JWs??? None of them isolated-3 killings! Ok, I would like to know how much worse it COULD be!!

Yes, lots of them. I was one of them.

Stress makes you sick. Being a JW means horrendous amounts of stress. And when we think of parents, or a heavenly father, we should think of someone who loves us unconditionally and is always there to comfort us. Jehovah's Witnesses do not worship such a god. Their god has them shaking in their boots. Everything is done out of a sense of duty. Giving, when giving out of personal choice, and not under duress, is very healthy. Giving out of fear for your soul, well that's damned stressful.

It's sad to remember how it used to be, but I had a reminder of the stress I used to be under and how bad it felt when two of the children were very poorly for a couple of weeks. I felt really stressed and it reminded me how it used to be every day of my life as a JW. It was dreadful!

Since leaving JW land I have, apart from colds, and flu on one occassion, I have never been to the doctors for a physical illness for four years.

The only reason I go is to see a counsellor who is helping me to get rid of the mental junk that a life time in Watchtower land left me with.

I think of most of the JWs I know, and I'm talking about the vast majority here including relatives, but they are sick both physically and mentally and I have relatives with serious autoimmune disorders that are slowly killing them. They are under terrible overwhelming stress caused primarily, I believe by the nonsense that is being in the Watchtower Society.

I believe the researched figures are that 80% of illnesses are caused by stress, the others are viruses/bacteria and congenital.

That's a huge figure and explains the 'sickness' of the people trapped in the watchtower bORg!

I never knew one truly happy, well, stable, fulfilled JW.

They were always looking for a quick fix to their problems like; quack doctors, quack medical treatment and diagnoses-iridology, herbal pills, magic pills...

Everyone I knew seemed happy except me.
