The Silent Lambs movement, what has it accomplished?

I think that the Silent Lambs is a thorn in the flesh to the Wts because it has made the public aware that pedophilia is also a problem within the wts and not only with the catholic church and other religions that have been on the news, and that the wts is not such a safe have as it claims.. THis publicity is embarrasing to the wts it seems to me, but I also think that the movement is putting pressure on the wts policy and the pedophiles comfortable within the wts.

I have only one concern. I know that women seeking child custody often falsly and flagrantly accuse their spouse of this as a strategy. The Courts do no want to take any chances with the possibilty of children being abused often resulting in harm to the innocent. I feel that a false accuser of this crime should be excuted. I feel the same way about pedophiles.

I think the media attention gives to the WTS is great. However, I think it doesn't do much for the average JW even though we have many ex-JWs including elders who left because of this.

I think the biggest and greatest impact has been on those JWs who have a family member who was sexually abused and saw first hand how the WTS mismanaged it. Many were finally able to realize they were no talone and they had to get out to get help.

Has this happened - most definitely. But most courts now will have allegations investigated. The WTS does not want the authorities snooping around in the cong. And the courts don't take false allegations lightly. And with the Child Custody pamphlet in a lawyers an d the judges hands the person make false allegations will be in trouble pretty fast. It isn't a perfect system. but it is better than giving people a walk on lies

In most cases, a court appoints a guardian for a child (at least in the US). This person represents the interest of the child. In cases of allegations of abuse, the court will set up a checks and balances to see if there is any abuse (mental, physical or sexual). If there is a hint of something, the court will maintain supervised visits and will monitor the situation.

Yes, the allegation of abuse is harmful, the reality of it is much worse. I would rather the allegation be proved wrong then the courts automatically thinking it is someone using it as a tool to gain leverage over a former spouse. In the end, the real story will come out. In cases of any form of abuse, my hope would be that the truth would come out sooner rather then later.

Slim is young. Give him a break.

My ex daughter in law falsely accused my son of abuse. They had to investigate it. It cost him a lot of lost time w/his kids, but would I want her put to death? No.

After the divorce was final, she has let up on the pressure so now my son has wonderful visits w/his kids and mom is under control now. This is the best for the kids.

But.... would my son take his kids for an overnight? Absolutely not. He cannot risk another allegation as sometimes innocent people are thrown in jail. Mom still has mental issues and is not stable. So until the kids are older, he cannot risk it.

The pedophiles have been comfortable there for a long time. Now, their comfort zone is being shaken, and exposed.

What does this have to do with SilentLambs?? They do not encourage this!! They saved my sanity. When I found out that I was so not alone, I can't describe what that did for me. They helped me find the courage to speak out. The support from there is great!!

I will say this: I have anonymously emailing JWs with some of the info from silentlambs. Some of them read the emails and have commented that they were disturbed by what they learned from reading the site. Also that they would never have heard about it otherwise.
