Did anyone see the fabulous 'Tribute to James Taylor' ? I just watched in on Public Television - I am not sure if it was a 'replay' or not - but wow is all I can say. What a fabulous show - and what a contributer to the arts this man has been.

I loved the show and hope others here share my passion for his body of work.

    i love James Taylor.

I like alot of his songs, but I really love to hear him sing Steamroller Blues.

I saw a special of JT of him and his musicians singing in a garage or something.

is that what you are talking about?

No - I don't think it was. This one was an official recognition of him as 'Singer of the Year' or to that effect. Lot's of talent played and performed, blues, jazz, Carol King, Sting, on and on. He finished the show with a couple of his songs, but mostly others played his songs and he got an award - but the end was terrific. They did maybe a 15 minute rendition of 'How sweet it is', and he did a song he wrote about Martin Luther King - I had never heard it before, but it was great.

Yes. When I was around 12 in 1970, my brother in law gave me Sweet Baby James. I played it until it wouldn't play anymore. The next year my best friend gave me Mud Slide Slim and Blue Horizon. I played the heck out it, too. And I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind. And then there was Tapestry by Carol King. She played piano on SBJ and wrote You've Got a Friend. Good version of it on Tapestry. Wore that one out, too. I love Cat Stevens as well. Neil Young would be my favorite of that era.

There is a young cowboy, he lives on the range. His horse and his cattle are his only companions. He works in the saddle and he sleeps in the canyons, waiting for summer, his pastures to change. And as the moon rises he sits by his fire, thinking about women and glasses of beer. And closing his eyes as the doggies retire, he sings out a song which is soft but it's clear as if maybe someone could hear: Goodnight you moon light ladies, rock-a-bye sweet baby James. Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose, won't you let me go down in my dreams? And rock-a-bye sweet baby James. Now the first of December was covered with snow and so was the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston. Though the Berkshires seemed dreamlike on account of that frosting, with ten miles behind me and ten thousand more to go. There's a song that they sing when they take to the highway, a song that they sing when they take to the sea, a song that they sing of their home in the sky, maybe you can believe it if it helps you to sleep, but singing works just fine for me. So, goodnight you moon light ladies, rock-a-bye sweet baby James. Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose, won't you let me go down in my dreams? And rock-a-bye sweet baby James.

Bob - you would have to bring up KM. I honestly had nearly forgotten about the old' Kingdum Songs until you mentioned them - does that mean that my mind is healing? Since my passion is changing from KM to JT?

FHN - Yep - Carol King sang 'You've got a friend' - and toward the end JT walked on the stage and sang it with her. She is a terrific talent too. You mentioned Neal Diamond - I loved his song about the tent revival - can't think of the name of it now.

That was a great era alright - hard to imagine that JT is still in his 'era' 35 years later. Elton, McCartney, Ritchie. All still around. We had a great childhood legacy in music didn't we?

Love JT ! As a musician he's a great inspiration. I saw the special last night as well--top notch. Great to see the likes of Sting, Taj Mahal, Alison Krauss and Springsteen paying tribute.

Not only is he a great artist but a class act of a human being as well.

I believe the "garage" video may have been his Squibbnocket special which was filmed in a barn on Martha's Vinyard. It's just been released on DVD. (Was produced @ 1992 but until now on available on VHS.)
