I guess the safest bet would be to say "Listen, I promised to keep my religious beliefs and opinions to myself tonight to keep the peace. It would mean a lot to me if you didn't try to disrupt that peace by insisting on bringing up your religious beliefs and opinions. We all know that we disagree on the subject, so let's not even bring it up so we can enjoy the evening, ok?"

I can't believe the audacity of some JW's. The BROTHER is the HOST. The uncle was way out of line. The brother's response was priceless and correct.

Considering the note things were beginning on, why even bother going? They are inventing conflicts and resolutions to those conflicts before you're even there. I wouldn't even call them - just have a telegram arrive in your place just when the event is beginning saying something like, "Rather than waste my time with rabid cultists, I've decided to enjoy a pleasant dinner at McDonalds (or enter your favourite disgusting restaurant here). Buh-bye!"

The JWs greatest weapon against us is the fact that we still care about them, and they use that against us. We can't change them, but we can change our feelings toward them if we try hard enough.

yes, the JW's faith is getting mighty fragile these days. In the old pre-1975 days they would have met criticism head on- Now they have to avoid all situations which might upset their delicate beliefs.
