Different time.............different attitude. You cannot, in all honesty, take a poll NOW about something that happened THEN.

But you can take a poll of the American people now to find out how they feel about the War in Iraq.

    Yes.

If there had been a poll, eighty to ninety percent of Americans would not have supported World War II.

But the key word here is IF.

    And 80-90% is an assumption.

I don't think it's an assumption for a person with a doctorate's degree in history. But just in case, you can look up public viewpoints from the news back then and other media to get an idea.

Also, don't forget the walking history books. . .the people that were alive during that era. . .

I would ask to see the poll. who took it, and who participated in it.

Who the hell cares what people would've supported or not supperted? It happened? The US got involved int he war for whatever reason. Lots of people died. The war is over. The US and the allies won. Whether people back then wanted to get involved in the war or not doesn't really matter now. And still, people are opposed to the war in Iraq and they the US is at war with Iraq. What people think doesn't really matter. As long as the president and congress and the house want to go to war, there's no way of stopping them. So much for the US being a democracy. justahuman - but super nonetheless

I think the question to be polled would be...Did the U.S. support a war in Afghanistan to find and eliminate Osama Bin Laden????? YES! THE ENTIRE COUNTRY AND MOST OF THE WORLD WERE WILLING TO HELP!!! The problem arose when Bush, for whatever reason, changed course in midstream, and invaded IRAQ!!! Did the country support that or most other countries around the world? NO! The invasion of Iraq and subsequent war had NOTHING to do with bringing to justice those that bombed the World Trade Center....How does that fact keep getting lost??????? How does that even relate to the question on whether Americans would have supported WWII??? It's like comparing apples to oranges...bad comparison! If the U.S. would have been bombed by Japan, and in retaliation they dropped bombs on Russia...then we'd have a similiar situation.
