Thanks jwfacts, but that can all be explained away with two little words: New Light

We call attention to a few slight changes which have been made in four pages of Vol. II. and six pages of Vol. III., "STUDIES IN THE SCRIPTURES." These are all trivial and do not alter the real sense and lesson,

    what can one say

    Thanks for your research.

The Kings of Brooklyn have always relied on the ignorance of their subjects.

Eithe the present writers are ignorant themselves or bastards

    Thanks for that jwfacts.

Looking at this, the only conclusion that can be reached is theat the wts has lied, and will no doubt continue to lie, about its history.

I don't have it available right now, but there is also a Watchtower article (I believe from 1918) that states that the Watchtower has been proclaiming from the beginning of it's existence that 1914 would mark the beginning of the time of the end. I find that quote amazing since not only is it a direct lie about their past only 4 years earlier, but it is a direct lie that was told during their so called 'inspection' by Jesus Christ!

I didn't see it in your article, i'll try to find that one.

That's a nice to-the-point presentation, jwfacts... Maybe one thing to add is how the Society loves citing the editorial in the New York World as proof of the success of the 1914 prediction (a reference to this piece occurs throughout the Society's present-day literature on 1914), omitting the fact that the editorial misrepresented the actual pre-1914 claims.

Yah , they are smooth alrighty. They even invented the spiritual paradise to replace the actual paradise earth . When things are done invisibly there's no way to argue sensibly about it .Those poor people in 1914 that swallowed all that crap and did sell off all their earthly belongings only to be rewarded with excuses and accusations of taking the watchtowers words literally and being left out in the cold ,hungry and naked, ignored by the people that were responsible. One carrot after another being waved in their faces in the form of new dates and invisible fulfillments. Now they are pulling the same stunts on the great crowd . I feel they do owe an apology in print to everybody for their mistakes rather than offering more excuses and playing a shell game with interpretations. Like 3 card monty they continue to shuffle their lies and outrageous claims to baffle and confuse people into submission.

Yes, but all that matters in the mind of the JW is that World War 1 started in 1914 and Russell predicted something global and terrible would happen in 1914! That's got to be more than just coincidence!!

That's what I used to think, even knowing that the WTS has changed the spin on its history.

Thanks for the additional info Drew and Leo, and any quotes would be great.

The WTS can explain that they were wrong with new light, but they can not easily explain why they are now resorting to lieing about what they said.

    This says it all

20 “‘However, the prophet who presumes to speak in my name a word that I have not commanded him to speak or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die. 21 And in case you should say in your heart: “How shall we know the word that Jehovah has not spoken?” 22 when the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah and the word does not occur or come true, that is the word that Jehovah did not speak. With presumptuousness the prophet spoke it. You must not get frightened at him.’

    Can't argue with God
