Incense was one of those unwritten rules. In some cultures it is still used in religious worship. But then it was the hippies that used it to cover up the smell of burning marijuana. As long as incense was associated with hippies in the minds of the elders, it was forbidden.

Just like the WTS can't let go of the hippie association with beards, it has a hard time letting go of this one too.

Does the fact that incense is used in religious ceremonies and in spiritism mean that all incense-burning is wrong? Not necessarily. Perhaps a person wishes to burn incense as a fragrance in his home simply to enjoy its pleasant aroma. ( Proverbs 27:9 ) Even so, in deciding whether to burn incense, a Christian should consider certain factors. Would others in the area where you live associate the use of incense with a false religious practice? In your community, is incense often associated with spiritistic rituals? Or is it commonly used for nonreligious purposes?
If an individual chooses to burn incense, his decision should take into consideration both his own conscience and the feelings of others. ( 1 Corinthians 10:29 )

The WTS always falls back on the one anonymous person who "might" be stumbled to control the situation.

Always worrying what the neighbors think becomes to complicated and takes all the fun out of everything. If I dont hurt anyone else then its my business. The others shouldnt be looking at me if it hurts their feelings, they should talk to thier shrink if what I do is bothering them.

My guess is it would be up to a JC to try to determine if the francincense and myrh was actually ignited or did they just cold sniff it. If it was ignited then the JC would have to determine if they enjoyed it or felt dirty afterwards. Did anyone see them lighting it that might be stumbled?

Even after the incense hearing ajourned for the night they would want another one to question Mary further on how "the rabbit died".

Sounds like a job for CSI:Brooklyn.

    I howled laughing at this!

Not just the ludicrous lengths that the WTS will go to control their members but the fact that people will just accept this pile of crap without asking any questions!

Wonder how many JWs will be throwing out their josticks (sp?)!!!???
