That's too bad...
Which Columbia? The article doesn't mention which state and there are several Columbia's.

1) could be a man whose wife/girfriend is studying with JWs
2) could be a man with a general dislike of JWs or any religion
3) could be a man who is mentally unbalanced and there was no direct connection to JWs
Nothing said that this was a JW who did the shooting.

Thanks for posting stealth Gunman opens fire at Jehovah's Witness hall
Published on columbiatribune.com Tuesday, December 19, 2006 A masked man opened fire on a group of worshippers outside the Jehovah’s Witnesses Assembly Hall last night, wounding a 36-year-old woman. The victim, who has not been identified, was shot multiple times and was transported to a hospital with non life-threatening wounds, Columbia police said. She has since been released. The suspect is thought to be a man between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-9, weighing roughly 160 pounds. The man, whose race is unknown, was wearing all dark clothing with a ski mask over his face, said Sgt. Ken Hammond of the Columbia Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit. Police aren’t sure yet whether the shooter was waiting for the victim to exit the hall. “We have no indication to believe this individual was specifically targeted,” Hammond said. “That being said, we also have indications that there were ample opportunities to fire at other people who had already left the building.” Four different congregations use the assembly hall throughout the week. Normally, the South Congregation reserves the building from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays, but because of scheduling changes, the Hinkson Creek Congregation’s Theocratic School was there last night. “It’s just shocking,” said Adela Todaro, a member of the South Congregation who learned of the shooting this morning. “It’s scary. We really don’t know who this guy was or why he started shooting at them.” Congregations will continue to use the hall this week.

Nothing said that this was a JW who did the shooting.
True enough, the gunman in the Amish shooting was not Amish.

I feel really bad for the woman who was shot.
The gunman might have been a father whose daughter was raped by a Jehovah Witness. I could definitely see someone doing that. Usually I don't condone violence, so hopefully he will be caught so we can see why he did it.
Unfortunately, this will only add to their persecution complex.

This almost happened here. When my dad got DF'd over telling brothers about the U.N. deal right after this became knowledge back in November 2001 he went Nuts. He could not believe he could be DF'd for apostacy when it was true they did it, the brother refussed to believe the BORG joined and would not look at any of Dads or my information proving it.
Anyhow we had to take all the guns away from him because he was threatening to go down and kill all the Elders during the meeting. We had every store that sold guns on alert, Police posted outside the Hall for months. Even with all the Police he still managed to get by them. He had no gun but he made it in the Hall and started yelling at the ELders. A few brothers went up to him and got into his face they told him to leave now, He told them if they put their hands on him they would wish they had never lived. He left yelling. Put your head in the sand and keep your mouths shut, They really did it, they really did it.
If we had not taken all the guns away dad would of had a gun that day and there would have been Elders shot.

what a difficult but smart thing you did for your father. It sounds like you saved a few lives because of your actions. And you were courageous enough to take the warnings outside of the family and WTS to alert the police and those who sell guns

Several years ago a young JW man had just gotten into his car after the meeting when another man walked up and shot him to death. Seems the JW had been doing the horizontal mambo with the gunmans wife. Ouch!
