So Hemopure is allowed by Watchtower, but not human blood. Is there an article that gives the "thumbs up" on Hemopure?
Hemopure is one of several hemoglobin-based products. Others are made from expired human blood; in this case Hemopure is made from cow's blood. All are processed in a way to make them "blood fractions" under the WTS definition. But all have in common that they are made from blood that has not been "poured out" per the WTS policy.

In the case of Hemopure and Polyheme, Blood substitutes is a very loose terminology because the final product is still 100% blood that has been filtered. If you really read the Blood policy you find the only thing not allowed by the Society is the water base that fractions are taken out from. With Hemopure and Polyheme this water base is mostly what is left with a few fractions that transport oxygen.
Also the Cow in the case of Hemopure and Human blood in the case of Polyheme has to coagulate in storage before the filtering process takes place. But still the water base that is not allowed by the Society is about the only thing left.
As Blondie said, Hemopure, (Biopure) Polyheme (Northfield) Hemeassist (Baxter) etc. are "fractions" under current JW policy because the only component of blood they contain is the hemoglobin protein obtained from various sources (Hemopure = Bovine; Polyheme = Human; Hemeassist = recombinant)
Normally the hemoglobin molecue only exists safely encapsulated within the membranes of red blood cells. Free hemoglobin is actually a toxin because it will break down, resulting in catastrophic renal failure in short order. The "trick" is to stabilize the hemoglobin molecule in some way (e.g. through polymerization) so it will not break down and still function normally.

Hemopure, a blood substitute product from Biopure Corporation, has recently been approved for marketing and use in adult patients in South Africa. The product has the specific indication of acute anemia related to surgery. This is the first blood substitute to be approved in any country for general use.
Hemopure is a product that is made from highly purified bovine blood and only claims to provide a form of hemoglobin to assist in the delivery of oxygen to end organs and tissues. It does not substitute otherwise for blood - meaning that it may not improve hemodynamics in many cases. In addition, it differs from blood in that it has a shorter circulation time (only one or two days).
Hemopure does not require refrigeration, so it can be kept readily available for use in the operating room. In addition, the company claims that there is no risk for infection with this product. The manufacturing process removes or inactivates viruses, including HIV and hepatitis C.
In addition, some have been concerned because this is a product that comes from cows; the recent highlights on bovine spongiform encephalopathy (mad cow disease) has brought this issue to the forefront. However, the company states that this is not an issue or risk with this product, again because of the purification process.
Hemopure has been found to be acceptable for use for Jehovah's Witnesses, a group of patients that refuse the transfusion of human blood products for religious reasons. Other clinical applications remain to be determined as the product becomes available and further studies are done.
The product should be available in South Africa beginning in early 2002. The company plans to file for approval in Europe and the United States prior to the product's release in South Africa. They base their regulatory filings on over twenty clinical studies conducted in many countries.

Hysterical Brothers and Sisters would fling themselves out of windows to avoid a Mounds or Almond Joy candy bar because "lecithin" was listed as an ingredient. It never occurred to them that the lecithin was derived from Soylent Green. Dopes... )
Genesis 9 and Acts 15 was specifically referring to mixing human and animal blood.

LOL@Honest -- exactly , it was about not consuming animal blood , it has nothing to do with modern day blood transfusions. The mosaic law is no longer empowered anyway . That was an interesting article , I knew nothing about hemopure prior to reading it. I am for blood alternatives because of the dangers of blood transfusions , I'm just real tired of this religion that spends it's money that was given for the preaching work on research for the science community . You go to the WT site and they boast on how they are donating very expensive machines to hospitals in order to perform the bloodless surgery . What a bunch of dolts.
