What did I get? First Rocco, my bird, bit my finger. Later he threw his Christmas dinner, bowl and all, on the floor. I refilled it and he's trying to throw this one on the floor too.

I got the runs too. I think it's from the Jack Daniels chocolates.

    I hope I don't get anything else.

I don't celebrate Christmas, so I got nothing.

But either way, nothing is better than some things, as noted above.

Rocco you naughty little santa bird!

I got fuzzy slippers from my granddaughter who I take care of a lot.

Otherwise, nothing. But that's all right. Christmas was for the grandkids this year.

My mother and father sent me money, vitamins and some other funny odds and ends. My sis sent me an Amazon e-gift certificate. My son gave me a cuddly throw (he knows that I keep my house pretty cool), a bottle of wine, and a pair of Naturalizer shoes (he doesn't think much of the ninja-looking slip ons I usually wear ); and a good friend sent me a gift card to Barnes & Noble (Thanks MSJ!)

Finally Free, your bird gave it to you good because you said you weren't putting up a christmas tree....so there!

They are smarter than you think.....you made him wear that santa hat and then didn't deliver. He said "bah humbug" today.

My daughter and I are pretty new to the Christmas thing. I got her a mall gift card--and the spa treatment and massage package of her choice. And she got me a gift card to BevMo--my favorite place for fine drinkables--and a box of delightful champagne chocolate truffles.

Also, there is a good friend of mine who's very much into knives. He has previously given me two knives; one a large jackknife, and the other a huge, sheathed bowie knife that looks like something Aladdin would have used. I have thanked him for the gifts, but when we talk about it I tell him I'm really not into knives. He won't listen though. So when I saw him a week ago, what did he give me for Christmas? A switchblade... (He informs me that they are legal in Arizona and that it would be wrong not to own one.)

One of my favorite Dilbert cartoons is one where Dilbert gives his mom a gift card. She replies: How nice, its just like cash only not as useful.

Unfortunately most people are afraid that cash would be received as being very impersonal and therefor do not give cash. I'd like to propose an idea that could solve this problem: Gift Cash from the US Mint.

Currently the US Mint sells all sorts of coins and bills as collectors items by providing them in "mint" condition with some nice paperwork and lots of glitz and glamor. In the end all you are really getting is unused currency, but its presented with a lot of fanfare and looks very "official".

Now, if the US Mint were to do the same with "Gift Cash", they'd have something there. The gift recipient would receive something far more useful than a gift card, and the cash would be accompanied by a formal and official presentation that would be appreciated.
