Knocking on Doors on Holidays

My parents went out on field service Xmas eve and my mum wore a long bright red coat. She looked like Mrs Santa!
She said every householder had been nice to them and wished them a merry xmas (they obviously ignored the content of the mags which probably denounced xmas)
I think she might have done it on purpose cos even though she's a staunch JW she doesn't really enjoy field service at the best of times and the coat made her appearance on the doorstep at Xmas a bit more bearable.

Pure f*cking torture! I used to go with my parents when I was little. When I was 15 I went on Thanksgiving and got chewed out. Never went out again on Thanksgiving or Christmas.

That being said, perhaps I was not the only one. In the past five years, never have I received a visit from a dub on either of those holidays.

    Aaaah Yesss, HOLIDAY WITNESSING

It separates the Faithful from the Unfaithful because the angels are watching and recording all who are a NO SHOW.

At the end of the day they report their findings to Jehovah.

    Wasn't it simply horrible?
So many sickening memories of being pressured and coerced into doing things we didnt want to and which were against our consciences and ethics.

My older sister and I would usually get paired up and we would knock very lightley, but I too was so imprassed.

    LOL @ Quotes! That's priceless!

I remember going out on christmas day. One guy looked at me and said "It's Christmas". His look and tone conveyed such disappointment in me, like I'd completely failed as a person for having made the incredibly insensitive and stupid decision to knock on his door that day. I felt SO bad, and I never went door-to-door on christmas again.

When people would invite me in field service after that, I'd tell them, "I DON'T go out on holidays." It was just about the only area where I wasn't a true-blue company man.

I always felt that "witnessing" on the holidays (especially on New Year's Day, when hangovers abound) was not only ineffective but exceedingly counter-productive: those you've irritated are unlikely to forget and receive you charitably at any future time, holiday or not...

Good show, WTS!!! Keep up the fine work!!!

I was always forced to go in field service on all holidays.

The worse was Christmas. Most people would open their doors and be friendly and if it was a school mate of mine, of course I was invited to see their gifts from Santa.

It was an humiliating experience for a child who would not have any presents waiting home for him to open.

I still have a hard time understanding how parents who profess to love their children would force them to participate in field service on holidays.

Even though I was a very active JW, I probably did not go out during Christmas for the last 8 or 10 years I was in. Just felt wrong. Of course I didn't verbalize this; just found other things to do.
