Out in Service & Making Bark-Calls

We never had any troubles with dogs. There were a couple of places where the dogs were unapproachable if they were tied up, but were fine when they were loose. And then there was the farm where they bred fighting dogs. I wouldn't have wanted any of those pitbulls running loose.

The most trouble that I remember from animals were a litter of kittens. They wouldn't keep away from the car and we were afraid of running them over. We finally had to put them all in the car and very slowly drive off, placing one kitten at a time out the door.

There was also a place that had goats running loose. They liked to jump on cars. Not very good for the body work.

    Dear Cellist,

Thank you for that different take on the wee beasties encountered out in service. My dog used to get up on the hood of the car - bad news! And the "cat-calls"! never heard the likes of that one before. We certainly don't wish to make the HH any more cross than absolutely necessary. Thanx again!

I'm a dog lover, and have owned dogs for most of my life. I never had any problems with dogs in the ministry aat all.

Pigeons were a differrent matter though. I was at a door once and one of them crapped on me - right on top of my head. If I'd have had a gun handy, I'd have shot the bloody thing.

    Hello and Thanx Dedpoet,

Seems like the birds are starting early in their great and prophetic work; it had to be collateral damage as Faithful Dubs would never be singled out for such treatment. A "hit" was put out on the wrong guy!

I have had a few dogs sicced on me when I was out in the d2d. I owned dogs but that didn't help in this situation. It is one thing if the dog is a toy poodle and another if it is a German shepherd. There is one good thing having a large, leather book bag.

The worst thing was being attacked by a flock of guard geese. Unless you count the guy with the gun.

lol Blondie! Yes. Always a LEATHER book bag. You feed it to the dog. But if it's an Akita I wouldn't go through the gate. Depends on the dog and also you have to keep it low for the ankle biters.

    Dear Blondie and Juni,

Thank you for your comments. It was not in service, but at a client's home when one of those pesky lil' ankle-biters jumped up and nipped me rear. It hurt my feelings, but we all got a good laugh out of it. I chose not to sue.

I remember two different householders letting their Doberman's out when I knocked on their doors. I had a young child with me both times. I love dogs and had one, but was terrified of those Dobies. They barked and didn't attack, fortunately. Their owners called them off both times and we left.

Usually if dogs ran at us while walking on the street, I could just call to them and pet them and they were fine. It's all in the hands and how you hold them, letting them know you aren't a threat.
