Well I know very little about Scientology, but from what I have seen on this board, alot of XJW's feel it is even worse than JW's. What is it about Scientology that makes it seem worse? The reason I ask is I was passing through Cincinnati the other day returning home from Dayton and there was a Scientology church in downtown Cincinnati. I almost had the urge to pull over and warn those people, but in actuality I know very little about them and would have probably lost an argument with them. What is it about Scientology that is worse than JW's? All I know is they are a money grubbing scam, but do they have a list as long as the JW's do' and do nots"?

They have weird beliefs. They belief that the universe was created by aliens, I think. Lots of famous people are Scientologists. John Travolta, Tom Cruise, etc. They also ask for lots of money and prohibit the taking of medicine and psychological/psychiatric therapy if someone gets sick. justahuman - but supernonetheless

Well, from my very limited knowledge of the religion, it seems that Scientologists all believe that they, individually, are gods of some sort.
I mean their belief system is very focused on self, and attaining some kind of greater power from within.
I guess that is how celebrities embrace it so easily.

- A person is an immortal spiritual being (termed a thetan) who possesses a mind and a body.
- The thetan has lived through many past lives and will continue to live beyond the death of the body.
- Through the Scientology process of "auditing", one can free oneself of "engrams" and "implants" to reach the state of "Clear", and after that, the state of "Operating Thetan". - A person is basically good, but becomes "aberrated" by moments of pain and unconsciousness in his or her life.

Apparently they have "compounds" where one is sent if they are having "doubts" and the accounts are dumbfounding. Also, one is expected to PAY hundreds and thousands of dollars for steps towards spiritual enlightenment and healing.

The founder of scientology, L. Ron Hubbard was a science fiction writer. You can find his pulp paper backs in the used book store. He is on record as saying "I’d like to start a religion. That’s where the money is." Which he did. That should tell you something also. If you dont know what you stand for youll fall for anything. Humans have the urge to belong. If you dont want to be a sheeple, you have to fight the urge.

I just read about some of the wacky beliefs of Scientology - these are just more beliefs that some people are willing to accept, and in this case the beliefs are definitely way out there - but, where's the proof those beliefs are founded on? There is none - it all comes out of the active imagination of someone; it's just a bunch of thoughts and ideas that appeals to some people who are searching for some kind of identity.
It just goes to show you that most people seem to need to grasp at something to believe in, whether it is something more acceptable by societal standards or something outrageously silly. It's like people are afraid of not investing energy in believing in something because who then would they be? Belief give one a sense of identity and something to defend. But, belief in anything is really a way of avoiding discovering the truth of what one really is because belief covers up that reality. At the core of one's being there is nothing to be found, no separate and distinct individual and that scares the hell out of people, and so belief in anything, no matter how ridiculous, is preferable to discovering that. Who wants to discover that what they take themselves to be is totally ficticious, a complete lie? Better to cling to a belief, and so delusion continues.
