Back then, AIDS was known as GRID. They didn't know that their product's name would share the same name of a horrible disease.
I remember these being advertised all the time on Radio Luxemborg (I used to think I was cool listening in on a night when I was a kid).
I even bought some, but they didnt do anything. They were supposed to make you feel full up so you ate less food!
I remember ayds chocolate and vinilla candy that you took with hot tea and loss weight back then.

My mom used to have boxes of Ayds around the house. We hate them like candy when she wasn't looking. Can't recall if they spoiled our dinner or not, but they sure didn't seem to work for her. This was after she tried the liquid protein diet that ended up killing some people. It's crazy what we'll do to lose the junk in the trunk.

I remember eating some and worrying because I had more than two. I don't think my mother bought them. Hmmmm, where did I get the things? Bet my girlfriend's mother bought them. She was always after my friend to lose weight. Eating a couple of regular caramels would have probably been as effective as these "diet" candies.
The guys in "marketing" never saw that one coming, did they?

They are somewhat unfortunately named, considering what happened later.
