Gumbers said: other sisters who know of an abused womans plight will encourage her to leave.....imo.
Not necessarily. In my old Hall, there was a brother who used to beat the crap out of his wife. Another sister (one of my best friends) found out about it and instead of going to the elders, she took this woman to the police station. The elders were furious and paid a visit to my girlfriend to try and intimidate her. Didn't work. She's mouthier than what I am and she knows the laws of the land better than I do. The elders tried saying that she could be in trouble for "gossip" and that she had "brought reproach upon God's Organization" by going to the police. She didn't bat an eye and informed them that no, it wasn't her, but THEM that could be in trouble for trying to cover wife-beating, which is a crime here, up. They got nervous and left.
My point is though, most sisters at the Hall do not have the balls to go head to head with the elders and risk losing their position in the congregation. Moreover, they don't want to be seen as "troublemakers", because that can get you into some serious trouble. In my experience, most sisters in the Hall will NOT encourage another sister to leave her husband if he's beating her. Maybe that's just in my area.....anyone else have a different thought on this?
