that explains why you are always on so late. And I saw that you were beating me at posts the other day so I got jealous and have been posting like crazy.

Technically speaking, if you were to follow the reasoning of the WTBTS, Satan is NOT the father of the lie, but the father of the 'untruth'. He did not actually lie to Eve, as she did die within that figurative day of 1000 years.

Perhaps, he reasoned she was not 'entitled' to the full truth, just part of it.

So basically, any JW can choose to rationalise that they do not 'wish' to tell the truth as they do not 'feel' that a person deserves the truth.

In my experience this happens a lot. So really if we follow through on JW reasoning - they are as in fact as an organisation preparing their followers for destruction - and not for salvation as they claim.

I had the point made to me over the weekend that -

"JWs were the only people who came to my door with the TRUTH. And many are on the road to destruction for narrow is the gate.......to salvation."

Fortunately that rendered me speechless (gave me time to think). Tackled the subject later in a kinder more rational frame of mind.

Bernadette - Speechless is sometimes the best way to be when dealing with JWs! Having been one, and for too long a time, I appreciate what a bunch of numbskulls they are when it comes to any form of rational reasoning.

I know of many JWs who think nothing of lying and are able to rationalise it using the reasoning 'given to them' by the Watchtower! Lies slip from their lips and they take on an air of superiority that would make a less reasonable person quite angry.

You're quite correct that 'destruction' is all that JWs really are prepared for. They have been waiting for so long for mass murder from on high, and avoiding it themselves, that their negativity is positively depressing. Far from being a 'happy people' as they claim, they're the most miserable bunch I've met so far.

Regardless of any "overt intention of deception through saying known untruths", it is deception that is utilised in the incompleteness of their speaking to the 'unworthy', and it is deception that is utilised when they suppress the "old light" in their own minds as they speak.

So perhaps being a really ignorant blind guide is not so much of a sin ?

And witholding truth with the intention to deceive is quite ok ? You could probably do ok in insurance fraud with that philosophy.

How timely for me. I have had this conversation with my jw many times! Also brought it up with the ms long ago. I asked him who is worthy of the truth? He claimed everybody and my example of wt definition of a lie is old and outdated (actually from the Aid book). In my opinion they don't need encouragement to lie, to their families or the public, it seems to come quite naturally to them. Like psychopaths they see nothing wrong with it.

Is a liar necessarily a fraud, or is a fraud necessarily a liar ?

By their definition it appears that one can be a fraud but not a liar.
