free2beme, you should live your life with no regrets. To me you sound like a good person and it doesn't seem you're being too proud or too overpowering. You are driven by success, any corporation that doesn't see that doesn't deserve you in their ranks. You should be able to find better job in no time. Just relax, they are probably just trying a new tactic to see if this is gonna work. Don't let them play mind games on you. If I were you I'd trun it on their heads. They can't afford to lose you, you can afford to find a better you. You have upper hand here not them. If they don't see that they are insane and are driving that company to the ground with their "management style", if that is the case you should escape while that ship is still afloat anyway.
In fact, with these characterisitcs you should be able to run your own company. Ever thought of that?

free2beme - be truly proud of yourself and be true to yourself. You are trying to find a logical reason to their illogical behaviour. It doesn't make sense that they would treat you that way, so I can only guess that someone has their nose out of joint for some blown up, exaggerated, emotional belief in their own mind.

What do you want to do? Do what you want and if they aren't going to accept it then find somewhere else that would be more than happy to have you. Because any company in their right mind would - and pay you handsomely.

And also take into consideration that this could be just a little push to get you out of your comfort zone. From the sounds of it you are fantastic at what you do, just check in with yourself why you don't want to upset the status quo. Maybe you are meant for better and higher things - just not in the company you are currently with. Think a little bit outside the square maybe?

Well, I then get lectured on how I need to removed my trophies from my desk, as they make people think I am overly proud. They mention how if I keep telling people I will not take a management position, due to the pay cut involved, I could loss my job and be replaced. They then mention, that I need to apply for management and be a team player, and benefit more people then me. At the same time, the head call center manager tell me he would not higher me, as a manager, as I am so negative about the pay cut.

What ?.........do you work at the kingdumb hell or something ????

Is it wrong to be proud of achievements? Hey, you're not the one who gave out the flippin trophies................

Great for you! As long as you don't think too much of yourself, don't even give a second thought what other people think!

The fact that you ask such a question shows how crippling religion has been to you.

We earn what we achieve by the skill we possess and the effort we make. The reward is fair because the effort and the skill created it.

To denigrate ourselves as human beings is what religion teaches us. We are told we are unworthy of living because we are born into "sin".

We are told this sin is a curse placed on our forefathers (and mothers) in a garden in antiquity.

We only acquire our "value" when we self-sacrifice and demonstrate humility in the religious view. So, we become self-destructive in our servitude and our humility is a devaluing of everything which makes us an individual.

All the good things in life come from hard work, achievement and rational understanding of our choices.

Be very proud of your achievements.

    What is the alternative?

You could be like Jehovah's Witnesess who achieve nothing by spinning their wheels doing other people's ad hoc bidding waiting on the world to end to get their vine and fig tree. Meanwhile life passes them by; they go into debt and have little joy in life.

Is this the sort of choice we should even consider making?

It is JUSTICE to be proud of achievement.

    It is insanity to self-denigrate.

Free2blame, I have read the other posts and some real good advice. A good piece of info I heard on my first fulltime job my supervisor gave me

"the boss may not always be right but he is always the boss".

I have always excelled at all my jobs and have had others who want to suppress me and my achievments. I am now a realtor and my wife and I are the top realtors in our office, I never go to any awards ceremonies and have never been into being the center of attention. Whenever I have felt the need to leave my job in the past because of managment or other working peers trying to suppress me. I have put myself on the bidding block and have always done better with the new employer, HOWEVER I have always left and never played games with my former employer as I have always felt this would bite me later if I didn't leave. Be yourself and excel at what you do; just be willing either to move to another company or keep your mouth shut and still you might have a bulls eye on your back. Tread the waters lightly and remember everyone is replacable just to make a point. Jealousy is a deep emotion that many times has no limits. I wish you the best and it is a shame to have to deal with this because of being successful.

Why should you go into management if you don't want to?

Be proud, be gracious, and move on. This company's managers probably have someone over them wondering what the heck is going on because many people are willing to take a pay cut for the prestige it offers and to get out of sales because they hate it. Don't you think they moved into the management positions before they started making more than their bosses? How many upper-level managers NOW make what you make? They probably took the offers to move up before they reached the ability and skill level you've attained. There probably is a mgr up there who was and is out-shined by you, and now's the chance to show you up. I agree with what avidbiblereader says. Put yourself on the "auction block" and show them up, instead of remaining a moving target. Good luck and do be proud and gracious! You have worked long and hard; you deserve better for your efforts.

Be PROUD of your achievements. But go further than 'management'. You have proven your value to the company, and they want more from you. Make THEM a job proposal. Vice President of Inspiration and Aspirations (or something fun and witty)Create a new job for yourself as a trainer and motivator-all across the country-even beyond your company if they are not responsive. Tell them why you have value, how you can consistently motivate others to do so and give them a written proposal/plan that outlines your ideas for expanding the potential you have within the company.Beyond 'mere' management (which I am assuming is a more local, simply obnoxious kind of management that makes you hated, not inspiring.) Become the guy they all want to be-but give yourself a better title than management. Who wants to be another hack in a tie? Sounds like you really have something special, and it sounds like your company could really use it. I have done call center work before and HATED it. Anyone who could make it look like a good career would be inspiring. Real information on being successful would be useful. Be the guy! Good luck.

Edited to say: That new position should involve a great pay INCREASE and other perks.

Start by moving the trophies, one a week until there are only two or three. Then, when a new one arrives, movee out the oldest one still on the desk. Ever consider letting management give one of your trips to the second place finisher? Bet it be just enough of a gesture to garner some support form your peers. Quit talking about the pay cut already, too. Simply say that you don't have the guts to be a manager. They are telling you what you should (and shouldn't) do, politics-wise. If a sales person out-earns managers, then the managers complain. They will side with each other. The head doofus wants happy managers. Your head doofus currently has unhappy managers. Got it?
