Interesting thought.
Indeed this seems to be particularly clear in the religions which were actually "started" -- the so-called "revealed" or prophetic religions implying an individual "salvation" (Zoroastrianism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam). Perhaps less so with the "ancestral religions" of immemorial origin which are more about the relationship between a traditional human society and a timeless cosmic order.
