How many on this board started out here as JWs defending their "faith"?

I left 6 months before I found this place........but if I had found it 15 years ago, I would have been one of those fighting tooth and nail FOR the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society.

I know this board has helped 100's if not thousands of people with the REAL TRUTH about the organization...........

In the face of logic and reason, how could it not!

"Hi all, I have just joined this site after having been visiting as a guest for a few months. I am searching for answers so please be patient with me. A friend of mine in the Congregation has directed me to this site as he has been having doubts about the Organization, though he said he never posts on it. Despite expecting to find nothing of any interest, I've been amazed at some of the things I've read and the fact that this might not actually be 'The Truth.' Whilst I'm not going to deny that there are obvious problems within the Organization, there is, however, one thing I'm having problem understanding, how could people become anointed ones without the holy spirit and Jehovah on the side of the Organization? There's an anointed one in my Congregation, he's been a special pioneer for many years and is the PO of the Congregation. He only became an anointed one a few years ago when an older anointed one in a nearby Congregation became unfaithful. Whilst I understand that you don't need to be from the same area as a former anointed one to replace the anointed one, the fact that it seemed an almost instant change made me think there was a link here, and that this was evidence of Jehovah making sure there would be that an exact 144,000 number of people in heaven. I witnessed first hand the change in this brother's outlook on life once he became 'anointed.' I'd had many conversations before this with him about the paradise, and he was always very excited about the prospect, but after this he had no interest in going to the paradise, and instantly looked forward to a time when he would rule as a king in heaven. As most of you will know, 'The Society' teaches that you are only anointed if you know you are beyond all certainty. The fact that basically all the anointed ones (except the obviously mentally unbalanced ones) have clearly dedicated many, many years to Jehovah, shows they have a real love for Jehovah. I can't believe it's a coincidence that 8000+ people who have dedicated their lives to Jehovah will today be able to believe beyond all certainty that they are anointed. To me it shows that whilst there may be issues with the Organization that need improvement, it still has Jehovah's approval, and it must therefore be the closest religion to having the Truth, even if it does get things wrong sometimes. I would be interested in hearing everyone's thoughts, and I'm willing to listen to everyone. As I said, I'm searching for answers. Thanks."

"I've never seen people so desperate to convince themselves of something so stupid in my life. If you want to go with the modern day view of 50/50 then go ahead. But its pathetic when people lie like you all have. First off, Time and time again we are told that husbands should treat their wives like they would like to be treated, so any man who is abuses his wife in anyway isnt even fit to call himself a witness. Second, that comment about a cow is pure nonsense. Humans are essentially mammals, all the WTS was doing was drawing an analogy. It doesnt say that "YOUNG GIRLS ARE COWS" it was simply showing a similarity. All of your arguments are weak and pathetic. But i understand your need to valify your leaving/denying the truth. So I dont blame any of you. Thats whats so good about life, we can believe and do whatever we want. "

I cant believe i wrote that :-(. That was almost two years ago, but still.

    Its funny how things change...

Welcome...........I was a JW for over 52 years..........do you know how many were anointed 30 years ago?...............about 8,000............that was 30 YEARS ago!

If this organization goes on another 30 years, quess What?..........There will aways be about 8,000 who will think they are the ones...........The organization well NEVER run out of anointed GB!.....Even though the door was shut 70 years AGO!

This Is something they don't even have answer for!

If you click on my posting history you'll find that my first entry was made in June of 2004. I came to see the WTS wasn't what it claims to be in September of 2004. I had been DFd in May of 2004--and was struggling with the subject of confession. I really did want to get to the bottom of the discrepancies and holes I was finding in the Society's teachings on it--but couldn't speak to any active JWs. So I came here.

I was glad to find this thread. I too am keenly interested in this--and only this question...

I know it might not seem like I was a JW apologist, but I assure you I was pretty scared about posting here, and I would have upheld most of the WTS teachings if I'd been pressed to. I didn't want to invite a fight, but as you can see, I also didn't want anyone filling my head with a lot of stuff outside of the one area I was researching.

I didn't post again until March of 2005--which was also the month I was reinstated. I'd played their game, but then quite immediately started my fade.

I had always had my doubts. What I never liked, NEVER, was the CONTROL. And CONTROL was palpable ay any event where the

WTS had all the power: Assemblies, but especially the DISTRICT CONVENTION. I never felt any love there at all. I always felt like I was herded.

I thought it was just me. All this while growing up. Fast Forward.......

So now an elder and pioneer and go to pioneer school. The PIONEER SCHOOL opened my eyes to the Org. And then I started searching.

By the time I got to this board I was already gone. I could not have defended it. And had I found it when I was still in high school I would have thanked

God for answering my prayers and finally letting me know the TRUTH!

I don't think you'll find many on this board who even came here with much of a faith, most people on here are EX JW's not active JW's. As well as that the Org warns their members not to log on to what they term as 'Apostate' websites for fear of being 'led astray' as they put it. So i dont think you'll come across too many heated debates about who's right or who's wrong regarding the JW's religion on here mate.

I think if I'd been online in '93 when I left I may have been a bit 'they are just another religion', and of made a fool of myself trying to argue for the existence of a Creator or designer as I certainly didn't grok natural selection. I no longer thought they were the 'truth', but it was largely being immensely and inarticulately unhappy with life as a JW.

By the time I got online in '96/7 I had no real belief even in a Creator or designer as I'd actually studied biology, I rapidly absorbed and accepted the evidence that the Dubbie's are organisationally corrupt, hypocritial, a good example of a bad cult, and totally toxic.

But no need to worry, I STILL make embaresing posts...
