I find it amazing that the WTBTS says that you should refuse blood, even if it could save your life.

Look at the apostle Paul. He knew the injunctions of Acts 15 - yet by his own admission in his letters to the Corinthians admitted that he bought meat sacrificed to idols and ate it. So would he have refused this meat if he were about to die of hunger?

Sounds to me that he didn't take this injunction with more than a pinch of salt as he must have known when he accepted invites from unbelievers he would prolly get strangled chicken, meat from idols and doormice boiled in blood and honey.

That could really make for a hilarious incident in a Judicial Committee™.

"So, Brother, did you choke your chicken before you ate it?"

Sister Scully, some elders would like to see you in the back room.

This subject always reminds me of the account of David asking for and eating the tabernacle showbread with his attendants. This was certainly a huge no-no. BUT...they were going to die if they didn't eat. So of course the priest gave it to them. Principle: The symbolic meaning of showbread or blood becomes a non-issue when it means preserving your life.

THE FOUR PRESIDENTS OF THE WATCHTOWER SOCIETY (JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES), E.C. Gruss, Ed., p.76:

Bill Cetnar, former Bethelite, urged his sister-in-law, Phyllis, to write the Society about having allowed her dog to receive a blood transfusion by her veterinarian:

"[...] the response she received informed her that she had done wrong. Phyllis thought that this was ridiculous. She wrote again and asked if her cat eating a mouse would also be a problem; was this too against God's law? She was told that she should keep the cat under restraint and be more careful in handling it. She thought to herself, "How many cats have I seen which have drained the blood of their mouse victim before eating it?"

    Hey Confession,

Yes, absolutely unbelievable. Some servile writer cranks out the drivel and it becomes gospel. Are both the cat AND the owner DFed? If so, DFing is akin to death. The cat's lucky - it has 8 more lives. The wretched owner is consigned to Gehenna. The pen is mightier [how about STUPIDER] than the sword. Whatever..........

Last night we had some half wit in full martyr mode taking about blood transfusions and dying for god and it got me thinking about the story of Paul and the meat Sacrificed to Idols . I am not even sure the Paul took Acts 15 very serious but I am supposed to commit suicide over this.

The obvious context was gentile Christians remaining Kosher in the presence Jewish christians in the first century.

When you really distance yourself from it, it all looks so very very smart and dangerous.
