About 3 years ago I went to the District convention in Winnipeg. It was held in a small sports arena in Selkirk about an hour north of the city. The sports arena was in the middle of nowhere. You had to drive back into Selkirk to get anything. Few hotels, few restaurants and the only way to buy food was to get in your car and drive back into Selkirk.

The arena was so smnall they had to divide the convention in 2 and hold it over 2 weekends. It was dismal.

As for 1973 I was living in Montreal so the convention would have been in Montreal, Toronto or even Ottawa. That was probably one of the last times they had a real band to play the music.

Nope don't miss them at all

I attended that convention in Oakland CA. It was in the collesium, what a scorcher. In the morning you froze your ass off and at night you did the same. The sound system was so bad you couldn't make out what they were saying. It was dismal. Kind of sounded like the parents on the Charlie Brown cartoon specials, wah, wah, wah.

It was unbearable, but man I could feel the love.

Winnipeg, 1973, I was there too!

We stayed in a campground, one night a tornado came through, knocked over a bunch of trees and several campers.

The stadium was open air, it was miserably hot most days. One day it rained, we all sat under sheets of plastic, could barely hear the program and could really not make out any of the drama about David and Bathsheeba.

    good times...

Proplog, remember the soyburgers and the bags of juicy black cherries they sold at Comiskey park? You were SO cool, if you strutted back to the bleachers with bags of cherries for everyone! The soy patties were actually good. The only entertainment was watching the jets turn and bank coming into O'Hare and Midway!

We in Aussie had ours in Sydney at the refurbished Randwick Racecourse. I had just been made an elder, had attended elder school, and was flushed with excitement at the prospect of the soon-to-happen "End of the World" as we know it. We went in a motor convoy with three cars from Perth to Sydney. A journey that took us, if I remember correctly, five days.

One of the gladdest moments of the journey was when we entered the town of Berri, in South Australia, we saw this sign strewn across the street: Berri congregation of JWs welcomes delegates to the DV DAssy.

Even remember the convention releases: Gods Kingdom of a thousand years, and the one book that is, I believe, next to KIT in its value as a WT publication, The Comprehensive Concordance to the NWT. My copy says: Released at the Divine Victory District Assy 18th Dec 1973, Sydney NSW

In fact the elder arrangement had only just begun, in 1971, and one CO made the remark, evidently with the blessing of WT HQ, that jehoover had revealed this to the GB only now, because the GB was going to need this arrangement to govern the New System effectively soon. Heady stuff.

    Also all nonsense.

    Cheers

If I'm not mistaken, it was during the 1973 five-day convention that the special Kingdom News A4 tract was released (or a similar name). Can anyone confirm that it was at this convention almost 34 years ago?

We were told from the platform that the emphasis would be on ensuring each householder was given a copy of the Kingdom News Tract and we were to make the door-to-door deliveries brief so that the territory could be adequately covered before the end came. I remember the hushed talk among the happy throngs of people about the important work we had to do when we got back home to our congregations. The atmosphere was electric with expectation and, dare I say it, enthusiasm.

S2, Yes, I can confirm this.

The tract was called KN no 16: "Is Time running out for Mankind"? My notes, in fading green ink, tell me that there was to be a ten day period in Dec 73, when this was to be distributed door-to-door. My notes also tell me that the speaker [sorry dont remember, did'nt take his name down, but something tells me he was from NY Bethel] mentioned that this work was of such importance that breaking a leg would be the only excuse allowed for not participating.

    Cheers

Hey thanks moggy lover - glad my memory has served me well. By the way, we can now answer the question "Is TIme Running out for mankind?" 34 years later, we're still here, so the answer must be "No". All that rushing around warning people for nothing!!
