    Blood sample taken from councilman

    Hattiesburg American/January 20, 2006
    By Nikki Davis Maute

Laurel -- A sample of jailed Laurel City Councilman Joseph Glenn Jones' blood was taken today at an Ellisville clinic.

The sample was then driven to ReliaGene Laboratories in New Orleans for DNA testing, said Assistant Jones County District Attorney J. Ronald Parrish.

Parrish would not comment on Jones' statement - written on the court order Thursday - in which he claimed he was a member of a religion that prevented his giving blood.

Jones wrote on the court order signed by Jones County Circuit Judge Billy Joe Landrum Thursday that "I am a Jehovah Witness since birth. I will consent to anything the law requires. I will obey any law and court order. It is against my religious belief to give or receive blood. This is not a refusal. I am just making those involved aware of my lifelong religious belief land practice."

Jones is being held without bond in the Jones County Jail on sexual battery charges. He is accused of impregnating two girls, a 13-year-old in 1999 and a 14-year-old in 1995.

Landrum ordered the jailed councilman on Wednesday to comply with a search warrant prosecutors filed in November seeking the blood sample.

That came after Jones' attorney questioned the validity of DNA testing that led to Jones' arrest.

Assuming he pregnanted these two girls, he was reluctant in spreading his semen, was he?

I thought jw's didnt get involved with politics as well as not take blood transfusions.

I remember when this newsstory broke last year. I called up the local TV station there and gave a really good anti-witness. I also explained that a JW could give blood samples and that a JW could not be a political office holder. I wonder what the outcome of this case was?

Is this man a council employee, or does he hold a political office? If so, I'll bet he didn't tell the courts that holding any political office is forbidden by a jw. As for using the no blood rule to try and avoid giving a sample, it reads like the final, desperate act of a man who knows he is guilty as charged.

This guy was an actual city councilman, and that is why I doubted he was a JW. This guy may have been raised in the JW's, and may still attend the KH, but if he is baptized, then he couldnt be a political office holder.

    Ditto.

My guess is that he is someone "raised in the truth", but never baptized. He went on to build a life outside the Kingdom Hall, but got caught doing something he shouldn't, and fell upon this idea as a last gasp to try to avoid compelling proof of his guilt.

No way anyone baptized & active in a congrregation could get away with running for political office, let alone actually win & continue serving!

The way I see it, the local congregation is getting a fine witness from this man. Praise Jah!
