A friend of ours called to tell us that there was a 15-minute talk on baptism this week. Does anyone know if this was scheduled or if it was a special needs talk? The congregation has been pushing this person towards baptism for years. I thought they would have given up by now.

It was the same talk in every congregation..."What prevents you from getting baptized" or some such drivel. My eyes glazed over, as usual.

It's a scheduled talk by an elder on the Service Meeting for this week. The theme is in a question form as to to induce guilt to those not baptized yet. The theme: "Is Something Holding You Back?"

The topic is based on the WT April 1,2002 issue pages 13-15.

Our unbaptized friend said he felt extremely uncomfortable.

What is the difference of just pushing them in the pool and holding them under?

I thought they would have given up by now.

They will never give this up, keep in front of their eyes, push, push, push. Why cant they just do like the Etheopian and let the person ask for it.

A friend of mine (23) who has been raised with the teachings told me about the talk, he called it "funny". He tried to get baptized a year ago while he had a bible student for over six months and the PO said he wasn't doing enough door to door. Now he is inactive and they are pushing baptism. Judgemental morons. Good for him though.

Aww - the remembrance of Service Meetings. I almost forgot them. Boring.... Until you hit "local needs" and they began describing evil sex practices and marijuana.

Baptize the babies, baptize the mentally ill, baptize the drunks, the hookers, and the heroin addicts. Baptize those that have been baptized, and baptize the unwilling, as avidbible reader stated-

Just chuck them in the pool. Over and over! Let's go wading in the water...

Get those stats up - screw eternal life. It's all about the numbers!

Numbers must be down a little, so they are trying to put extra pressure on the current crop of unbaptised 8 - 12 years olds to take their stand.

I think they do this every year around this time to get you to think about getting baptized at the upcoming DA. For the unbaptized people in the audience, it's one of those talks where you just wish the floor would open up and swallow you because you feel every eye in the hall burning into you and wondering what's wrong with you that you aren't baptized.
