I was approached at a vulnerable time in my life. I was also a perfect candidate. I was disillusioned with the world around me and had been raised during the sixties and seventies. I had already turned on and tuned out of society. Very idealistic. Ripe for the picking.

One of the most important factors in a person being attracted to a cult is disillusionment with the world we live in and feeling powerless to change things. The attraction of a God that is going to intervene and magically make everything perfect is a strong draw.

Put a "CARROT" in front of a horse and he will work his ass off to get to it. Get the picture!

    Rich:

I was at a vulnerable point in my life and was "searching". (Should have kept going, ha.)

Because most people, myself included, had little actual bible knowledge, they didn't see the need to question what was taught. It was accepted as fact, without question. This is the danger. They sounded "scholarly" because we had no knowledge or anything to compare it to.

I was told that in Paradise there would be no children and there would be no sex because the earth would be full and there would be no reason for either.

Are you sure they said that ? I know they say for the millenial reign no babies or sex but afterward was an unknown. At least that's what I remember them saying.

That plus there were some JWs that I really really did not want to live forever around, I found myself going less and less.

I know that's right .Alot I think just figure since they are calling on the name "jehovah" that it will be good enough at the last minute. They certainly don't convey the attitude that they preach about all the time . They trash each other just as much as any ex dubby on this board trashes them .

Just because something has the “ring of truth” doesn't mean it is true!

One can fall into believing all sorts of things that sound "reasonable" at first but then turn out to be really false.
