I liked the quote from the JW girl that "going to school is like being on the set of an X rated movie?" Is being a fluffer now considered a proper job along with janitorial employment? How else would she know? JK

I don't think these articles are printed so much for young people as they are for paranoid parents.

My conspiratorial theory as to what the WT really wants with this article: Parents read this and get worried. They then keep tighter control on their kids. The kids become more indoctrinated into WTthink. The kids have less interaction with worldly kids. They become more and more reliant on WT/JW activities. By the time they graduate (and decline further education) they are trapped into the JW life. The WTS now has them under control and they become a productive member of the hive to carry out their worker bee duties.

The reality is that the tighter you try to control quickly maturing youth, the more they are going to rebel. And the more they rebel, the quicker they'll realize that the world isn't such a bad place after all. That's why they keep going on about why so many JW youth leave. They've run them off with their archaic and conservative approach on modern issues.

These articles are sad. I'm sure hooking up happens. I'm sure sex happens at school. But I'd be willing to bet that most kids are about the same as when I was in school. They talk a big story, but most are pretty straight laced.

I remember my school daze(pun intended). I remember my cousin, same grade and school, snuck off with her boyfriend to behind the gym and did the deed. I remember a school club camping trip, chaperoned by teachers...when they came back, the buzz around the school was how two kids hooked up in a tent without the chaperones finding out(I knew the girl and was jealous that I didn't get to go, LOL). I can recall off the top of my head, three girls who were pregnant in my last year of high school. I remember a buddy of mine telling us how he got a blow job on the school bus. We didn't believe him but the girl confirmed it and offered us one too. (she was a skank and I declined). And I went to a small city school known not for anything out of the ordinary ever happening.

Point is...sex is going to happen. But for all the stories that I remember, I also remember most of us didn't have sex. We fantasized, we dreamed, we lusted after, but we never did it. And a lot of people made up stories about it and the rest of us fell for it and thought, geez, I'm the only vrigin in this school. It's a parents job to teach about responsible sex to their children and to teach them the morals that they expect from them. And most kids are going to be alright. If we train them, trust them and then expect good things, we'll get good things. If we don't trust them and we expect bad things, we're going to get bad things.

Can I add that I used to read the YPA articles for titillation too - right up until I found Judy Blume!

    Hiya Grace!

When I was at Bethel, one of the mandatories was to go through a series of eight talks about Bethel life. Of course, there was one about sex...and it was done coed. Knorr insisted on doing this one, and when he started, he instructed us all to turn off our recorders (as was our wont, such things would typically be taped and sent back home as 'inside tidbits' of headquarters).

Well, let me just say that Knorr left nothing undiscussed, and talked at considerable length (pardon the expression LOL) about what to do, and what not to do, when you got a boner, or had a wet dream, or were looking at another guys private parts in the gang shower, or when you were in the "hot spot" between your periods, what not to think when a shapely house-keeper was walking down the hall. Us just-postpubescent kids were blushing like red lights: every one of us knew how many tiles there were on the floor.

This was just one of the times that he literally frothed at the mouth.

How Can I Say No to Sex at School?

DUH! How stupid are these people? A simple answer would be something like, "Let's go to my place instead."
