I met Telly Savalas on a carousel in Seattle, where he was making a movie in 1964. I had my 18 month old son on a horse and he was there with his young children, right next to me. He was a bit aloof, but said hello and how are you, etc. I think he was afraid I recognized him, which I did, but didn't tell him.
I've met and had breakfast with Mark Victor Hansen, author, motivational speaker, and best known for Chicken Soup for the Soul books. He was with the same company I was for years. We chatted often at seminars. He was very nice, unassuming and not in celebrity mode at all. He is incredible at remembering people and their names. I saw him at an airport a few years ago, after not seeing him for about two years, and called to him, and he blew me a kiss and yelled a greeting to me, using my name. That was cool.
I also met Jack Patera, former coach of the Seattle Seahawks, while going door to door. He took the magazines.
One of my cousins sells wood stoves and installs them, and sold one to a guy named Chris, back in upstate New York. When he went to install it, he realized it was Chris Sarandon. He said he was just a regular guy, very nice, and friendly, not celebrity type at all.
I also met a man named Doug Wead, a former adviser to George H.W. Bush and Reagan. He is also a pretty prolific author. We were sitting next to each other at computers at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City, doing genealogy research and he asked me how to use the resources. Really charismatic man. He told me all about himself and some of his experiences. I could have listened to him all day. I looked him up when I got home, and sure enough, it was him. I was a bit skeptical that he was who he said he was.
