Maybe some JW's avoid going to the doctor and get good medical care, since the end is so close.

If you were sure the end was very close, what would you avoid doing?

Good one. The JWs in my family used to think this way, even not bothering to update their cars or move house since of course Armageddon was so close you could touch it. Now they do things with a long term view, buying holiday homes abroad, putting retirement/pension plans in place. I've noticed this only in the past 10 years. They're still good Witnesses but maybe they don't believe in "IF" anymore.

In the Summer of 1975 I wouldn't even buy green bananas.

Going to college is a huge one. Poor schmucks won't get a real education, but will work for years and years as cleaner, window washers, and landscapers. There is nothing wrong with those professions, but the idea that they forgo anything with a long term future for the sake of the borg is retarded.

That interesting Clam - I wish my folks would, but they'd probably consider it a lack of faith in themselves to even consider buying a house. I worry that it will get to the stage that they can't work anymore and will find themselves homeless when they can't pay the rent. Feel sorry for them that they will die in poverty. I'm just hoping that I can avoid that in my future by trying to get some qualifications and a career started before I am 40 so that I can buy somewhere to live eventually.

This is a big one. They are constantly checking internally to make sure what they are hearing is in line/has been approved by the WTS. If it hasn't, they close their ears for fear that Satan the Devil will escape out of my mouth and possess them too. It is sooooo frustrating. OR if they DO listen, it's with a view of HOW to prove me wrong (usually with some inane circular reasoning that doesn't make any sense), not to actually consider that I might have a good point/something to thing about. But this actually doesn't have anything to do with the end being so close. This is just their training/brainwashing in general.
