It is like being an alcoholic, it will always be a part of you.
I am a recovering JW and always will be, 27 years, 7 months, 3 days, and counting.

I prefer to think of myself as a "recovering jw".
Of course not! No more than I am an ex-sixth grader, seventh grader, etc. I'm a former agnostic but that is not my identity. I am what I am now, not what I'm not any more! carmel of the "brotherhood of man" class
Great answers, I enjoyed every one of them!
I don't identify myself as an XJW, mainly because that to me would be like acknowledging that according to the WT brainwash I'm an 'evil apostate', rather than an respectable and upright person. But when the topic of religion comes up, I don't hesitate to tell people about the way that I was raised in a dangerous cult, and that I've lost my entire family to it. People find it difficult to swallow, like it's a TV Movie of the Week, but when I say it was JW, people respond with complete understanding.
Phillip, your 'recovering JW' explanation is funny and true!
