Oh, forgot one that many have been counseled about. If a couple is dating they should not sit together at the hall unless it is "serious" which to many meant the couple had to be engaged first. Never understood that one at all. I mean if they are dating they are obviously sitting together in other settings, so why not at the KH? -

A new one I just heard of. You can't wear your sunglasses on your head while in service, as in placing them there while you are at a door. No scriptural reason given. -

We weren't supposed to go to rock concerts and worldly music of any kind was bad 35 years ago. However that "unwritten rule" seems to have gone by the wayside here in Seattle! JW's are always going to music festivals here and I suspect most that are going are elders kids since they seem to have a free pass.

If you don't get 10 hours a month (national average) you're considered weak.
JW talk about watching Lord of the Rings but then shun Harry Potter.
Jumanji is bad because there is a wigi board in it, yet Disney witch movies are OK.

I look at SO many things as unwritten. Every time a watchtower article says something like "a mature christian might want to consider", there's 2 ways it was taken. Most people at the hall took it as "don't ever do that". I took it as "think about it and decide if you can handle it". Often I did it anyway.
My father did not go to the memorial service at his own brother's funeral because it was a Lutheran service. I looked it up and it was more of the warning about false teachings and a mature christian might not want to attend, blah, blah, blah. I was not JW at the time and had no problems attending, but I thought of my dad "how F'ing weak can you be"? He can spend 50 years of his life being a good JW, knocking on doors, talking to people of other faiths - where he's going to hear other beliefs. Yet he can't hear it from a reverend during a funeral??? It's as if they say you can't think. You hear anything else, you'll believe it. No credit whatsoever - in any of their warnings. It's anti-thought. Program a response for them. Don't let them figure things out on their own.

You can stand for the flag salute but not stand for the national anthem. I never understood that one. -

If somebody at work flirts with you, you should quit your job. (That was from a circuit overseer who is no longer a circuit overseer.)

And you have to give up being a football player:
Peter Knowles (born 30 September 1945 in Fitzwilliam, near Wakefield, Yorkshire) is an English former Wolves football player. He spent his career at Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he became a popular player scoring around 101 goals in all competitions. He voluntarily ended his football career in 1970 after he became one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He is the brother of fellow professional footballer Cyril Knowles, who even became so famous that he had a special song written about him:

Sisters shouldn't wear too much makeup or jewelry Years ago, I bought my wife a full length mink coat, a dazzling diamond to go with the other jewelry and she always had designer handbags. "
Good taste has never been on the list of rules for JW's - written or unwritten!

@thedepressedsoul: "Lord of the Rings" is ok because it is just a fantasy story, no scary spiritism. "Harry Potter" is unacceptable for mature Christians because it has sorcery and demonic elements ( Searcher characters). End of story.
