A JW actually spoke to me yesterday

I stopped at the store yesterday, on the way home from having taken my JW mother to lunch. Inside the store was a JW I've known my entire life, but he doesn't live in our area. The store was Trader Joe's, and they are not in every community, so he had driven quite a ways to get there.

Anyway, he recognized me immediately, and greeted me, asked about the family, and my brother, who was an old friend of his. My brother has been disfellowshipped since 1978 so that was odd. I told him Mom was in the car, so after we both paid for our groceries, he came out to the car to talk to her for awhile.

Mom was so happy he had talked to me. I was just a bit shocked, to tell the truth. Usually I am invisible.

    Do you need counselling?

Good for him! It sounds like he's shaken off some of the 'shunning' policy nonsense (who knows what other nonsense he's shaking off?), and seeing as he was a little out of the area, he felt Big Brother wouldn't be watching him so he was free to express his genuine interest in you and your family.

I love Trader Joes! I am glad to see him see beyond the games jws play. good for him.

Wow treated you like you were a regular human being. That is unusual. There are some that will talk to me from my wife's congregation. The first time it happened to me I was shocked. Maybe he is having second thoughts about his religion. After all nothing they have said has come true and Jehovah hasn't hunted you down and killed you for leaving. I would think some of them would be thinking about that.

I guess you're a Trader Joe's fan also. I was just there yesterday shoping for things I can eat on my diet. The only wine I bought was a bottle of Two Buck Chuck for cooking. First time ever I have got out so cheap.

He is probably on the way out or perhaps he has already sent his da letter in!

It's pretty good drinking wine too.

I doubt it. Mom told me they have all been encouraged to talk to inactive ones lately, to try and encourage them to come back. I laughed when she told me that, and then I ran into him. She seems to be right.

    I'm not disfellowshipped.

Mom is 94, and very well known and respected in the greater Seattle area. I doubt they would do anything to her at this stage of her life, even if we were df'd. At her age, they know we take good care of her, and they sure don't want that responsibility.

My brother is df'd, and has been for 30 years, and no one has ever chastized her for her long association with him. .............other than me, that is............before we left the WTS.

    Mulan,

While it's good that old friend spoke to you in the store, I wonder if he'd as been as friendly if other JW's were along with him? Or would he have held back due to fear of being turned in? The Fear factor dominates the actions of JW's when in the company of other JW's.
