Losing the faith-but using the bible?

I find myself still arguing for the Bible POV vs. the WT POV at times when I really don't believe the Bible is inspired of God. A whole new layer of potential evil on my part, I guess. However I just think that academically, if they are claiming their stance as being from the Bible, that it is fair to show them where it is NOT biblical. OTOH, is that hypocritical?

I think there is wisdom from men in there, and some from men who really wanted good things for others(such as Jesus seemed to have)So, even if I don't believe it inspired, I don't think it is fair to bash people with it disingenuously. But I am using the same book to prove them wrong in their bashing. Then again, I don't have to be any particular political type to point out silly republican OR democratic things, and if their own statements are contradicted by their policy or what have you, then using their own words against them is fair enough-I guess. So, is it really any different with the Bible?

It bugs me that I respect it more than they do and they claim to believe it and follow it better than anyone else.

I think, when people settle on a belief system, it means that they force the divergent parts of the bible to fit that mould. When you refuse to accept a system (religion), you are more free to see honestly what the bible says. That bugs the religious people.

I agree with you JWdaughter and do the same.

Find that there is a lot of inspirational/enlightening stuff in the bible especially in what Jesus said.

To me that means that you haven't lose your faith (you've lost faith in religions which is a part of the real faith actually it's even a part of the propheties) faith is about believing in what is really good for everybody and that's what Christ was talking about.

The Jews believed in God (the majority didn't have faith they rather like the "React immediatly kind of God" because they didn't feel to grew up and felt more secure in having to follow laws so that they believe it was the only way to know NOW if they were ok or not (but who would put a kid in jail? we are kids in every aspect we did not get the point on by ours or others experiences). The Jews just forgot that Laws for salvation could lead to forget about what is most important - means : forget about the other ones.

Angels knew god exist but they didn't like what was really good. They didn't want to be inspired by God's Wisdom (Christ) they rather liked to be egocentric and using their ability to please themselfve only.

Believing in God is not the kind of faith that the bible is really asking for.

God in being the essence of everything, just believing in it would be believing in everything ... the Father is the spirit of God (in everything) the Son is the wisdom/talent of the Father's spirit ... As we have free will we can choose to follow or not what it is telling us wich is (act in charitable ways for others means that it includes forgiveness and forget about your ego when needed) that's it, if you believe that is the right path you have faith in the God in God (Christ). Being Christian is not a question of religion it's a question of which kind of phylosophy toward others you suscribe to.

it's the same difference in between the water baptisme (just a personnal vow based on beliefs) and the baptisme from holly spirit (based on what is real faith).

Eddited to add ; (based on what is real faith). Means that you suscribe to Christ wisdom/spirit = GOD in GOD

i think that its absolutely right to use the bible to point out where the witness point of view (thats what POV meant yes?) doesn't agree with the bible. Thats the only thing they would halfway listen to - if you just said YOUR point of view, they'd ignore it in favor of WTS but as they profess to believe the bible above all else then you have no other choice but to use it in your arguments.

Not only is it completely fair to point out where the WT betrays the Bible on which it pretends to be based. I also believe that the Bible is an essential part of the cultural heritage of mankind, especially the Western world. And I think it would be a tragic mistake for secularists or post-Christians to abandon this part of their background to the "believers".

I look at it from the point of view of speaking to someone in the kind of language they understand and respect.

I, too, do not view the bible as anything other than recorded mythology and values of the time in which the stories were written. But having the ability to relate to someone who views it as the sacred word of god, who does accept it as a valid and authoritative guide book for their life, gives a kind of common ground on which we can agree to a certain extent.

Having said that, and knowing that the bible can be interpreted many different ways, it then becomes very easy to lead someone who believes in it to the conclusion that you want them to have.

OK, I'm evil. Deal with it.

The WTS is a business trying to imitate a religion so inevitably there will be many Biblical points of view that they will deny and do their level best to fit the square in the circle. They try to distort verses to fit their beliefs or in other instances they completely ignore them. Just like everyone else.

Even if you do not beleive the Bible to be the wholly infallible word of Almighty God, it contains good advice, history, object lessons, etc....

And it's fun showing fundies who claim a monopoly on the Bible how their teachings refute, twist, contradict, add to, take away from what

is actually written. One of my favorites is in James: "If any man knows what is right and does not do it, it is a sin for him."

In other words, be TRUE TO YOURSELF. By defending the Bibles's POV you are doing just that.
