Armed Security to be at Oct 7 event

  ...at least at the one in my state. Found out that they read a letter Sunday at one of the congregations going to the October 7 meeting. There will be hired armed security guards with metal detectors at the door, everyone will have to go through before being allowed in.

  They also said that you're not allowed to bring in any bags like lunch coolers, and that you may be physically searched. They also suggested that you bring an unopened bottle of water in case you get detained for any reason.

  They are suggesting people go EARLY and plan to wait a long time to get in. There was also something mentioned about people bringing minor children who are not publishers having to get a letter signed by their PO or something and then they would get tickets at the door, not sure exactly how that would work I thought that it was just for publishers.

  Anyway, I can't imagine how long it's gonna take to get all those people through security. And this thing starts at ten in the morning. People are gonna have to wait a looooooong time.

  Just thought I'd pass this info along in case anyone was thinking of trying to get in without a ticket, it might not be a wise idea.

  p.s. I've also been told from someone going that recording devices are going to be banned.

  Interesting. That certainly doesn't sound like the WTS approach, so I'm guessing this was done by the stadium owners, probably part of the post 9/11 environment.

  That should keep the recording devices out unless they're pretty sophiscated.

  Yes, Seeker, thank you for saying that and I'm sorry, I should have said that was my feeling also. I am sure that if not for the events of the 11th that they would definitely not be going to such lengths. They've never hired security people before, I can't imagine they'd do it unless they had no choice.

  Probably mandated for every large gathering now. I just wanted anyone who was thinking of trying to sneak in to know the set up in advance.

  Bah, nobody in the world besides JWs and ex-JWs gives a rats ass about JWs and their little 'events'.. They just want to feel important and persecuted. Like Satan might use terrorists to attack Jehovah's people or something HAH. They want the R&F to feel that the world has changed, important things are afoot, the end must be near because it took an hour to get into the stadium.

  Beavis? Well I'll tell you this. The other night 'ol W said that the US was in "hot persuit" of the terrorists. When I heard that with his texas accent, I looked at my husband and said "Oh my GOD, didn't he sound JUST like Roscoe P. Coltrane? (sheriff, old Dukes of Hazzard tv show) My husband laughed for ten minutes LOL

  Speaking as someone who used to bootleg concerts, you'd be amazed at all the ways that you can get recording devices into any event. I'd taped concerts where I was completely frisked without getting detected.

  Two questions:

  1) Is this meeting now restricted to elders and their families at all venues or just in those instances wherein relocation to smaller stadiums was made necessary aaro MLB/NFL games needing rescheduling? If the latter, it means r&f members who are in congregations who'd been invited initially are still eligible to attend?

  2) What about these security arrangements prohibits recording devices?
