Bracing for 12-16 inches of snow in Indiana

I did get my normal groceries on Sunday, and so yes, I did buy bread and milk. The thing that irks me is that usually the "milk-bread run" people are the ones that live 5 minutes away from a store. So when people like me, who actually live out in the country where the nearest store is 20-30 minutes away, go to the store, all that's left is generic wheat bread that no one else wants. It's a mentality, really, that people think they have to "stock up" before a storm. Have your regular ammenities and maybe a little extra, but don't go bonkers. In this day and age, how often is it really that it storms so badly we physically can't get out to get more food before we starve to death?

A side funny story: this morning on the news, they interviewed a local grocery store manager about people "stocking up". He said everyone's buying bread, milk, and eggs, so apparently whenever there's a big snow storm, everyone needs to make French Toast for some reason!

What? No beans, rice, flour, sugar, water, oatmeal, TP, coffee, ramen noodles, or pop? I have food in the pantry, but a big bag of beans and rice can go a long way!

Supposedly, we are supposed to get some of that snow, too.

That's a good observation... locally, last month, we had an ice storm that shut down the city. (We don't have the proper equipment to keep things running when we get snow or ice.) Anyway... for two days here, the traffic came to a standstill - the freeways were shut down... folks were told to stay at home, etc.

We got out to the grocery store on the second day, when things were not so bad, and traffic was moving a bit better... they were pretty much cleaned out of eggs, milk and bread - like you mentioned up where you are.

My wife commented on how that they were out of these items. I told her that the reason was that the supply chain had been broken for a day or so. They usually get 18-wheelers come in at least once per day - with goods to restock their shelves. It's amazing to me how fragile our society is - miss a food delivery for a day - and the entire chain breaks (or gets severely stressed).

    Regards,

How are the rest of you Hoosiers doing? So far, we have approx. 11 inches on the ground; the snow has been dumping down since midnight last night and hasn't stopped; in fact, it won't stop until after midnight tonight. The winds are very strong. I just walked down our long driveway to get the newspaper and it was brutal!!! Even with boots and a snowsuit on! The snow hitting my face hurt, and the wind chill factor is about -11 F. I shoveled off our back step about 45 minutes ago, and now there's a good inch piled up again on it. I'm going to go make some hot chocolate now. Stay warm and safe, everyone.

Mrs.Jones-how's it looking for your interview tomorrow? They've officially called a snow emergency where we are, so we could get a hefty fine if we're out driving except in special circumstances.

Your dinner sounds great. I can almost taste it

I'm keeping an eye on the news. If it's still really bad tomorrow I'll call and see if I can reschedule the interview. Being that the company is in Fort Wayne I'm sure they'll understand.

I just called the company to talk to my contact and it's closed. I'll check tomorrow morning too. Just checked the weather conditions for Fort Wayne and they're under a blizzard warning until 7am tomorrow morning. So we'll see how it goes. Strange enough though I'm not worry and feel very calm about it all.

My car got stuck coming home. I went into work today because we were required to and I had a lot to do, so I didn't leave till 5. Our parking lot was a mess to get out of, but I followed my boss out with his car.

I get to my apartment and I'm goin good till I go to get into our parking lot, it ramps up and it was bad. 3 guys helped me out, but surprisingly none of us had shovels. I could have dug myself out if I had a shovel. So we finally got the car over to the side of our street where it is now staying. It's not stuck, but we've got wind gusts of 40 mph here and snow is all over. They took the plows of 65 and out of our town.

I will probably still be going to work tomorrow.

Still pouring down snow and blowing sideways here in Indiana! We have about 14 inches according to the news, but I don't know how they figure it with all these drifts! The power is still on, but I'm ready with a big 3 wick candle, a couple antique Aladdin Lamps, and a fireplace. Just wish my husband was better company.......sigh.........
