Old Bible Student Hunts Me Down

When I first got the courage to sign up to JWD all sorts of emotions flooded in. Mostly I was angry at having wasted years of my life struggling to please the Watchtower Society and God.

In one of my first posts I asked if anyone had gone and apologised to former Bible students for teaching them lies, and I thought perhaps I should.

Well, two days ago, from out of the blue, I get an e-mail from a student I had contacted in the D to D work, she studied and got baptised. That was about 15 years ago. She faded and then got 're-activated' last March and wanted to let me know how she was.

Now what do I do!?

I sent her a couple of messages about how I've got through my depression and other things and made it clear that I'm so much happier these days now I'm faded and not struggling to keep up with prayer, FS, study, magazines, meetings etc. etc. But I gave nothing away in the apostate department.

So I passed comment about how shocked I was when I heard of the Org. being involved for 10 years with the UN and how I'd confronted two elders 14 months ago to find out about what the society was up to. They have never returned with information.

Well, here's her short reply today:

"Sorry I took a while to get back to you. What you said about the wild beast
really shook me up. I have been talking to xxxxxxxxxxxx and she is going
to get in touch with her friends at the Bethel as she thinks it has
something to do with the apostate web site about JW's. I'll let you know as
soon as I hear. I am not putting too much stock in it though, just another
means for satan to turn us away."

I replied:

"Thanks xxxxxxx, that's cool!!

If it was just a bunch of apostates getting all bitter and twisted I wouldn't bother but it was the subject of a couple of Guardian newspaper articles which I get each day on my PDA and they're pretty respected. I went straight to the United Nations website and there have been thousands of enquiries about it and they even had official letters stating what happened. I can't imagine the UN having the time to bother with apostates.

I hope xxxxx can get some answers because the brothers here just don't think it's very important. (I just thought it was like joining the YMCA or something so you can use their swimming pool!!)

The hierarchy are going to smell a rat, but it looks like I'm going to get a chance at undoing all the bad I've done to her all those years ago!

I was never very organized to accomplish my ministry and so apart from one study when I was 15 I think I turned more away from the JWs than I enticed.

As my mother told me when I was 9 "No one is going to want to be a JW when they look at your miserable face."

Well done for trying but go easy as she is bound to be warned away from you when they learn you are the source of these UN questions.

I'm bumpin this for bigmouth because it was a really interesting story and some of us may have similar stories to add or advice on how to keep this ex bible study investigating wthout getting into trouble.

Sounds like you are going about it the right way.

Looking back I'm glad I never 'brought' someone 'into the truth'. I must have lacked Holy Spirit.....

If I had maybe i'd feel different. Now if I got an opportunity to talk to someone I used to know as a JW, I think I'd put things to them much the way you have.

Hey buddy, how many of us get second chances? Not many. So this is your chance to right a wrong you did before you even realized you were in the wrong. In other words, try to share your more enlightened viewpoint with her.

Hi bigmouth,

I hope you get the chance to talk to her again, though she may well be warned against having too much contact with you if her jw friends hear that the source of the information was you.

If you do, be very tactful, as she may cut you off herself if she thinks you are attacking her beliefs.

I think its great you're trying to at least plant some seeds of doubt. Personally I can't hide my disgust about the dubs long enough to snooker them into reconsidering. The things they get away with, the things I swallowed whole, just makes me want to scrub the inside of my head with a steel brush!
