The times are dark now, but nothing like what are coming, for Jehovah's Witnesses.

They are consolidating power in the CO's, refining how they communicate with elders and CO's, and to me, the most ominous, they are moving themselves out of the public eye, in NYC, to move upstate.

Another unpredictable outcome is the real estate; it really seems like they are gutting any intellectual underpinnings, in favor of 'simplification', and focusing on real estate and money collections.

Those moves all are consistent with moving further down the spectrum to full on cult.

    Pistoff,

I agree. Of course none of us can predict the future of the Borg and their Dark Lords, but the issues you raise suggest a circling of the wagons and a clenched fist, digging in of the heels mindset. Moving from Brooklyn surprised me, as I've stated before. NY can be brutal in making people/organizations conduct reality checks. Absent that critical eye, the Dark Lords would appear to be removing themselves even more from the mainstream - something which doesn't appear to bode well for the rank and file in the shire.

When cults feel stressed or pressured externally, they typically act in these ways. The grab for $ from the local congregations appears pathetically greedy. Railing against college/dress/grooming/etc. does harken back to a dark era. Maybe the Dark Lords will surprise us all and become a kindler, gentler Borganization. Reeks of Gollum, the Nazgul and the Dark Lords. Run and hide in the shire, Hobbitses.

Yes, on unusual occasion movies would be mentioned by name in the magazines. The Omen (a passing mention in a contributed article,) The Exorcist, The Exorcist II (in a news blurb) speaking of the way the content disturbed viewers. E.T. (and Star Wars) in a half-page due to the extreme popularity of the film (people calling hq about it.)

Star Trek II and Time After Time mentioned in quotes from Nicholas Meyer re: meaning of PG rating. Making Love mentioned due to homosexual content shocking for the time.

A few others perhaps, usually mentioned in Watching the World blurbs.

My point though was that movie titles were not routinely (almost never, in my experience) mentioned in talks and certainly were not included in outlines given to speakers.

Vidiot's right. It is the same in any cult. Take the people who want the rules the most, give them a lot of indoctrination with very little actual knowledge or study, tell them they are brilliant and pious for knowing (whatyou want them to believe)  and you get al-quaeda. The Taliban, and ISIS. You get the abortion opponents who threaten the lives of, or kill doctors or journalists that oppose them, you get nazis and you get fundamentalist extremists of all stripes. The WTis playing the game the way all cults do. The WT elites (at all levels) are getting what they want out of it now. I don't doubt tht they will grasp for more-cause that is what all the evil villians do,right?

Guy Pearce condemned "Brokeback Mountain" at our CA. I was there.

WT always was one step forward, one step back. I remember little melting and freezing, and this is nothing new. We had always a list of forbidden movies because they considered inappropriate. One movie stick me 30 years later, and it is Polish one Sexmission (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexmission). I seen this movie after I left and realize that the movie was not about sex, but about totalitarian regime defiance. Maybe the Borg was afraid that JWs will see association between WT and totalitarian regime depicted in the movie.

    Oh yes, here's another film:

    *** g79 3/22 p. 10 The Kind of Places Discos Are ***

“Saturday Night Fever” The main character of the movie lives for just one thing—to shine at the disco on Saturday night. The sexual escapades of the disco crowd are featured, including oral sex, which is performed out in the car during interludes to the dancing. The language is of the filthiest kind. Yet all of this is presented as normal—the way of life among those who go to discos.

In the cong I attend, there is a definite feeling of it going more hardcore. More laws, rules and procedures and less bible.

It's worrying that a christian religion doesn't focus on the teachings of Christ, which are mainly love, acceptance and tolerance..

You want to go through my music, Brother Hounder?  I hope you like Christmas music.  I also intend to have plenty of Led Zeppelin on hand, along with the filthiest rap I can get my hands on (50 Cent).  Just because I enjoy being entertained by people acting stupid doesn't mean I am going to copy them.

Tight pants might not be comfortable, they can tear at the seams, and they may cut off your circulation.  Other than that, I suggest not worrying about them too much.  Would that thing rather we go back to the baggy pants worn halfway down from the mid 1990s?  You should do your reasonable best to look attractive, not frumpy.

Higher education might be an issue.  However, it is only a timing issue.  You will be in debt, more likely than not.  With Saturn in Sagittarius, you might wish to hold off until the spring semester of 2018 when Saturn moves onto Capricorn.  And waiting until after the financial crash, you will find tuition prices crashing.  In the meantime, do your own independent research online while we still have it, and you will be better off when you do go to college in the spring of 2018.
