I have just finished re-reading all seven books of the Narnia Chronicles by C. S. Lewis. I have found these works of Christian Allegory to be surprisingly thought provoking given that they are commonly considered to be children's books.

Mulan, I am on the second chapter of Timeline. Amazing stuff!
I read in threes also. I'm reading Nothing Human, by Ronald Munson. Typical serial killer stuff. And just started Ancient Evenings, by Norman Mailer.Reinventing Your Life, by Jeffrey E. Young, PH.D/Janet S. Klosko, PH.D has really helped me break free from the negative patterns of being a JW. Also, The Celestine Prophecy.
Princess, I keep Secrets of the Sexually Irresistible Woman, by Graham Masterson by my bed at night. Just for a little late night education.

Tina,
I'm halfway through "Churchill: A Study in Failure." Somehow it is peculiarly resonant. Not only will I never attempt, or even contemplate, a forcing of the Dardenelles (the ancient Hellepont), I might not ever again be able to pluck up the courage to mount an assault on my backyard gate.

Princess,
I can't believe it! Your reading those demonized books!
That's what we thought anyway not so many months ago.
We wouldn't let the kids read them and would have had a fit if they brought one home from the school library.
Now as I write this my oldest daughter has one in her room and I'm thinking of taking both my kids to the movie. Also I agree about the smutty book needs.
I love Joanna Lyndsey's books!

Well Tina ..... it would take too long to list them all here but suffice to say that just on JW's I have 5 shelves (4 ft long) full of books that I have read ....
Then there are another 25 x 4 ft shelves of theological stuff and info on other groups etc .....
for starters anyway
Then for relaxation I have read all the Ludlum books, Forbes, etc etc and just sold about 600 paperbacks with similar themes plus a bit of sci fi etc thrown in.
my husband reckons I am a bookaholic LOL

Hi Tina,
Great idea for a thread! I've enjoyed reading about everyone's readding choices. To all you Harry Potter fans out there, Bravo!! My kids are into the books as well and when I saw some Simple-minded parents whining some time ago about how evil they were and they had to remove those books from school libraries, well--I HAD to have look. They are imaginative and brilliantly written. I love them! It looks like htey have done some fine casting for the movie too. Should be good.
Tina, as you know I was fortunate enough to not be raised in the WT-cult and wasn't nearly vulnerable enough to fall for their nonsense when they came knocking on my door. Therefore I cannot list any books that helped me after leaving. The one book that did help me after studying with JWs and becoming really intrigued as to jsut what was in the bible that made so many hold such differing views, was of course the bible itself. You should see all the post-its I have flagging heinous acts sanctioned/committed by biblegod, and all the contradictions! Dozens if not hundreds.
I won't bore with the bulk of my reading list but I would highly recommend my recent read of Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot by Al Franken. He is brilliant and does such a fine job of shattering all Rush's blather and much of the rhetoric put out by the Republicans during their recent reign of hate-mongering (a.k.a. the Clinton years).
Love to all--
Julie
