My brothers and their wives stopped speaking to me back in August, everything hit the fan. My parents just returned from a visit and my mom brought me something from my sister-n-law, very weird. So I sent her a thank you card and after a few weeks she responds with a short note resembling this:

    your welcome.

    Love, xxxxx

    1 John 4:1

1 John 4:1 states: Beloved ones do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world.

    I want to say:

Nice to hear from you. I couldn't help but notice the scripture that you included and I couldn't agree more. It is so true that there are those that wish to lead us astray and that False Prophets endeavor to pull us from truth. I then I want to slam her for being misled by false prophets

Please note the next verses to get the full meaning of the text:

    2. you gain the knowledge of the inspired expression fromGod by this. Every inspired expression that confesses Jesus Christ as having come in the flesh originates with God, 3 buy every inspired expression that does not confess Jesus does not originate with God. furthermore this is the Antichrists (inspired expression) which you have heard was coming, and now it is already in the world. . I went on Wikpedia and pulled up this definition: This passage speaks of the Antichrist and Antichrist is translated from the Greek a?t????st?? antĂkhristos, which literally means "opposite of Christ". A broader meaning is "in place of Christ". Therefore, antichrist means opposed to Christ by being in the place of Christ. The term itself appears 5 times in 1 John and 2 John of the New Testament--once in plural form and 4 times in the singular. You will be relieved to know that we don't fall into this category, we do not oppose Christ. So I am trying to compose an answer that is pointed without being nasty. Does anyone have any suggestions or points that can be included, something that will make her think or stick in her head.

I have nothing to add other than good luck, considering she sounds like a die-hard JW and it will not matter how you respond as it will just be ignored and you will still be the bad guy.

You are so right. I am just frustrated and it is my first inclination to send something straight back and stand up for myself.

Better to sleep on it, goodness knows my response will spread like wild fire.

I think you need to be short and poignant - I would assume they simply won't read 'postate words

    I would suggest

" I thank you reassuring me with 1 John 4:1, as I have tested WTBTS expressions and found them to be not from God."

No amount of answering her will penetrate her belief in the holiness of the WTS will it. So why bother, just smile sweetly when you see her and assure her you love her still. Till she is open to questioning there is little one can do to penetrate the rocks in their heads.

Good luck, it sounds like you are picking a battle that you can not win.

Tell her the truth. She made her point, you make yours!

"Thank you for your concern sister in law. I agree 100%. I am taking this time to thoroughly investigate the history of the religion that I gave so many years to. I am particularly interested in the time period from 1914 through 1935 and how the "faithful and discreet slave" was chosen and how they decided on doctrine and most of all, why they turned all of their power over to the Governing Body.I have discovered to my delight that everything ever produced by the WTBTS is out their in it's unadulterated form. I can read the words written by Russell, the exact interpretations of Revelations in The Finished Mystery, and of course the words of Rutherford. I have found out many interesting things already that I was never taught or told in all of my years as a JW."

The "Standing in the place of Christ" argument is ripe for somehow stating that the governing body have taken that place and stand in the place of Christ in that they say that THEY are the mediators between Christ and the rest of us.

The governing body and The WTS have TOTALLY taken the place of Christ...

Also I wanted to say that you line of argument that you want to write to her is really good as you have it lined up so far. Very short and succinct. Well done- I'd send it when you think it is ready to go!
