Man by his very nature needs to believe in a power that is superior to himself. In addition many rules and regulations of the gospel are necessary for the wellbeing of man whose destiny is to rise above his animal nature and spiritualise. That is religion not to go along with the instincts.

People believe in religion because they don't want to believe that our consciousness ends when we die.

when i came to this realization i found contentment in my life fineally. I agree.

Religion is a snare and a racket.

BUT, people with inquiring minds want to know:

Why are we here? Where are we going? Is this life all there is?

True story- touring Athens, Greece. A tour guide is telling us all about the temples to the
various gods. I ask, "Do any Greeks still worship these gods?"

She laughs for a second, "No, that's silly, most are Christians now."

maybe because our ancestors developed religious beliefs from cause and effect thinking, which continues down to this day. If something good happens to a god fearing person they believe it was a gift from God.

plus, the social payoff is pretty nice for some people. nobody likes an ATHEIST !
