I'm not 93 like Zack, but I suspect from research that he's spot on. (Is that a British term?)
The doctrine keeps changing, so they say the "light is getting brighter."
The only problem with that is that the original explanation for the "light getting brighter" is
that new light would add to old light, never contradicting. Well, that didn't happen.

Eventually, well established science will be able to satisfactorily prove that life is much more
than 49,000 years old. That's why WTS dropped their "7000-years-to-a-Creative-day" nonsense.
Most people accept that science has already done it.

If they ever prove that humans are older than 6000 years old, beyond all doubt, the WTS will
keep denying it, saying something about the carbon dating process being flawed. They already
    use that one.

I am astounded that I went along with this stuff. I assumed science never had it right and WTS
always had it right. How dumb do you think I felt?

What I'd like to see them answer is this. If they're the only channel for Jehovah God and Jehovah God is supposed to be all-powerful and all-knowing, why do they hafta keep making "adjustments" to their "light" and calling it "new light." They'd be better off just saying, "We don't frickin' KNOW!"

I, personally think it's just "gnu-light" they're shinin' everyone on with. After all, they put their trust in their "Gnu-Whirled Translation" don't they?

Actually, the WTS teaches that the universe along with the planet earth (bare rock without life) are millions of years old correlating with secular science.

They did teach that God started preparing the earth for life over a 6 creative day period of 7,000 years each. Humans are currently living in the 7th creative day approximately 6,000 years into it (minus the difference between Adam and Eve's dates of creation which falls within the 6th creative day). Allowing for the 1,000 year reign of Christ which the WTS says must take place within that 7th and final creative day.

Even with the deceptive "thousands of years" change, it does not take away how they originally arrived at a creative day being 7,000 years long: by back-dating the 7th day.

1,000 years for the reign of Christ

plus how they count back, arriving at 6,000 years based on Bible chronology. This does not allow for "thousands of years". Most oldtimers missed the change and occasionally bring up this point to the consternation of newbies (JWs in the last 30 years) who wonder where they got such a strange idea.

No argument here, Blondie. I'm sure I would lose. My point is that they allow everybody to think
the WTS was right all along, even if the newer JW have a different understanding than the older ones.

Most oldtimers missed the change, because it was designed for them to believe there was no change.
Most JW's in the last 30 years (I would say 20) are unaware, because they dropped the teaching.

Similar to plenty of other doctrine- organ transplant, aluminum, innoculations. Dropped teachings that
    people forget.

So in summary, when the bible says 'day' it could mean one 24 hour day, 1 year, 1000 years, 7000 years, or 'a period of time'.

Therefore making pretty much every date in the Bible almost impossible to disprove... but then one has to wonder why the list of days is included in there anyway if it doesn't mean didley squat.

Heck we've been living in the 'last days' for the past 90 or so years. Why didn't the bible just say, the last decades if that's what it acctualy meant?

Yes. Many prophetical "days" fit literal numbers, others symbolic.
A bunch of "day for a year" rules go into effect, but not always.

WTS takes minor events in the 20th century to make them fit these.

    That will not end.

I just speak from my observations. I fall into the group who was adult and alive in 1975. I remember how 7,000 years was hammered into us. There was never an article or a talk saying, 7,000 years has been replaced with "thousands of years." They just stopped mentioning it I think 1/1/87 WT p.30 was the last real mention; if not it was close to that time.

In fact, I think my first post on JWD was about this subject. An older brother had given an answer at the book study (2001-Creator book) and was sharply corrected by the conductor who had only been baptized for ten years, about 4 years after the last mention of a 7,000 year creative day. The conductor didn't even know that it had been taught. After all, most JWs have a hard enough time keeping up with "present truth" let alone the past.

On the WT-CD, the last mention seems to be 1/1/87 p. 30

If I remember correctly, both vaccinations and organ transplants did have an article explaining the change. I'm not sure of aluminum because my records don't go back far enough. But there are JWs still today that won't use aluminum pots/pans or deodorant or aluminum foil.

I found this item in 1982 and 1983 Awake which shows that the WTS still sees aluminum as a health hazard.

    *** g82 6/8 p. 30 Watching the World ***/Aluminum Overload

Toronto pharmacologist Dr. Armand Lione says that aluminum in the food we eat and in the utensils we cook with may contribute to health disorders. He claims that as little as two or three milligrams of aluminum filtering into the brain can disrupt normal functioning and contribute to a form of senility. Lione said that the average North American takes in about twenty-two milligrams daily, and most is excreted through the kidneys. However, he warns that the efficiency of the kidneys begins to decline after age thirty, so some aluminum begins to stay in the body. What are some common sources of aluminum in foods? Commercial cake mixes, pancake batters, self-rising flours and frozen doughs. These often have sodium aluminum phosphate as a leavening agent. In sulfate salts of aluminum, known as "alums," aluminum may be present in some pickled foods, such as pickled cucumbers. Aluminum cookware, especially when used to prepare and store acid foods such as tomatoes, can increase aluminum content, the doctor declares.

    *** g83 2/8 pp. 30-31 Watching the World ***/More on Aluminum

Aluminum was thought to be harmless to humans until scientists recently found it in the brains of senile people and concluded it may be a cause of senility. Now the magazine Science reports that aluminum may be implicated in another degenerative-type disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease). A study of diseased brain tissue from residents of the Pacific island of Guam, who have an unusually high incidence of ALS, revealed significantly more aluminum than did brain tissue from controls. The question of whether aluminum cooking utensils are hazardous is still open, according to the scientists.

I think the only way the WTS can get rid of their past is for everyone who remembers to die.

This is what they tell from the one side of their mouth, while still trying to tell you that the whole creation account is being explained from an observer's point of view here on earth. (their way of explaining the non-scientific version of events).

But since when does " a day" mean 7000 years to anyone here on earth?
