I also would not say it is criminal ,(intentionally

See, this is where I really disagree. Again, in taking the emotion out of it (or trying) and looking at it as a whole - this is how I see it.

A publisher comes to my door. We start to talk and I ask them about the practice of shunning, because that is my fear and something that I have been told that witnesses use. I'm told by the publisher that this does not happen. ( fraud by lying). I start to study with them. I am not hearing much if anything about the doctrines of the organization. (fraud by intentionally with holding information) We move along and I am pressured to get baptized - after all it's been 6 months. I get baptized, still not aware of every single doctrine and the ramifications that one action will have on my life. I decide after being fully involved for a few years, that I cannot support this religion (fraud for misrepresentation by telling people that the organization follows the bible when instead it follows the society), so I try to leave. I am called in to a meeting and disfellowshipped. I am now shunned. (fraud from the first question). My family and myself are now faced with mounting medical bills due to anxiety, fear, depression as a direct result of the shunning. My wife divorces me as a direct result of the disfellowshipping/shunning. My employer has decided that I will be laid off - a result of disfellowshipping/shunning. I think you get the point.

The way I see it is that baptism in the organization is nothing more than a contract - since it is not a baptism with God but instead it is a contract with an organization. In order for the contract to be valid and binding, it must be clearly spelled out for both parties to understand. So the contract should say smoething like -

1)You and your family are not allowed to seek medical treatment unapproved by the organization regardless of wether or not death is the result. To do so will result in discipline and terminate the contract, resulting in discipline & expulsion by the organization and total shunning by everyone in the organization.

    2) Termination of this contract will be at the sole discretion of the organization and for any reason they decide upon. These reasons may include such things as inappropriate dress, addiction, smoking, sex or any association with a person who is not one of jehovahs witnesses. Dating is strictly forbidden unless it is for the purpose of marriage and only dating and marriage within those baptized members of the organization is acceptable. Association with non witnesses is unacceptable therefore, you will not visit any realtives that are not members or the society. This will include grandparents, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles and your children. You will celebrate nothing. Termination of the contract will result in punishment by disfellowshipping and shunning.

    3) Discipline will take place in the organization in the form of shunning. This will mean that you will have no contact with any family member including your parents, your children, your grandparents and spouses. You will consider those people dead and they will serve no purpose in your life. Should one of your family members be disciplined, you will treat them as dead. Age is not a factor in discipline therefore, if the discipline should be applied to a minor child or an elderly parent, you will abide by the death sentence applied by the organization.

    4) The man of the house will rule as the head of the house in every matter including but not only in matters of finance, travel, organizational activiities and sex. Failure to abide by the rules that the man of the house has set up will result in termination of the contract and you will be punished. In addition to losing your children, you will have no further contact with your parents, your grandparents, your brothers and sisters. Further, you will never marry again nor will you be allowed to have a relationship with anyone for the purposes of marriage or companionship but instead will spend your days in solitary confinement.

    5) Anyone can sign and engage in this contract regardless of the age of that person. Any minor who engages in this contract will be bound by this contract and should they change their minds later, they will suffer punishment by expulsion and shunning. Age and misunderstanding of our rules are not an excuse for termination.

Anyway....I think you get my drift. I don't necessarily see each individual as fraudulent - I see the organization as fraudulent and they should be held accountable by misrepresentation that includes theocratic warfare aka lying. sammieswife.

Sammielee24 I loved your post, that pretty much tells it! I personally believe they are a Criminal Organization!

Totally agree with that sentiment from sammieswife.

    Also,

A publisher comes to my door. We start to talk and I ask them about the practice of shunning, because that is my fear and something that I have been told that witnesses use. I'm told by the publisher that this does not happen. ( fraud by lying). I start to study with them. I am not hearing much if anything about the doctrines of the organization. (fraud by intentionally with holding information)

The publisher is trained to do this without being a criminal. He is not there to commit fraud, it's just his training.
The Borg tells him that householder's shouldn't be overwhelmed with things they are not ready for.
That makes the Borg the criminal. The door-to-door drone is just following orders that are not illegal, as far as
he knows. He says "JW's do not shun." Most drones never hear the word "shun" so they think it's the truth.
Most drones are told that disfellowshipping only occurs with unrepentant sinners, so they never consider the
doubter to be in that category, any doubters they have known went right to being labelled as apostates, so they
    weren't DF'd for "doubting."

The doctrine of the org. is too complicated to explain in a few short weeks of study. Concentrate on the truth as revealed thru
the Bible BIBLE TEACH BOOK. Tell them to come to the meetings to learn the rest. That's the way a publisher is
not lying. The publisher is not a criminal, he's been duped.

Exactly. Which is why the relationship to me - remains contractual. Based on this - I wonder why litigation in the form of class action in regards to personal injury has never taken place. The cost in every way has been high for too many. For example - if I had joined the society based on the answers that I had been given and the subsequently gotten disfellowshipped and suffered shunning, then I was conned into joining an organization that committed fraud. Mental health officials are just now writing about PTS and about the dangers emotionally and mentally of children raised in a cult, so in short order, there should be lawsuits galore. Taking on the society at the top is next to impossible, however, if the Elder body, including the CO's and DO's who are representatives of the governing body were to be sued, then it might make a big difference. Taken a step further - if I had sued the woman who lied to me and become baptized into the organization - given all my money, my time and then been cut off from it all to the point where my life was endangered - then I think the publisher that lied to me could be sued.

It's like if I join a club. I'm told that it's a non smoking club so I sign on the contract with the understanding that in no way will I be exposed to smoke. I have asthma and it could kill me. I join up and lo and behold 4 months later I see that the majority are smoking when I'm not around. I disagree with the policy and terminate the contract. They try to force me to honor it and take me to court. I win. The representative of the organization is acting on behalf of the leadership. If enough get taken to court they will be thinking twice about why their own rules are so secret - not excluding the very bad publicity it would be receiving.

The rules of discipline are much different for the JW's than for most other religions. Most other religions will not force the rest of the membership and family to bury you. You can leave and then go back if you want. JW's allow no grey area. For this reason, they should be obligated contractually to every person in the halls. For those brainwashed as a child, they had no choice - every single baptism should be null and void for them. sammieswife.

PS - I'm not saying I would want every publisher to be sued nor every Elder......but where do you start in order to get them to stop?

Only a successful criminal prosecution against the bOrg would establish it as a criminal organization; until then, it's just a matter of opinion.

If the WTBTS were indicted and successfully prosecuted for criminal racketeering or some such thing, then it would be established as such. Until then, it's just a cult with a lot of questioners and people who see it for what it is but have yet to prove or establish it in criminal court.

Winning civil suits for the sex abuse cover-ups and such just doesn't count; until the org itself is indicted, prosecuted and sentenced for criminal evasion or for knowingly and criminally contributing to the deaths of its members, it's just a civil thing. When those issues are put into the hands of the state, it will become a criminal org officially (not just in the minds of some or many of us here). I suspect that it will happen one day soon.

Rolling on the floor for that one. LOL.

sammieswife, the lawsuit sounds interesting, but past decisions will show lawyers that
it's a loser. You would have to get a lawyer more interested in the precident than the money
to do it. It could be done.

the WTBTS like other religions isn't necessarily criminal, they aren't breaking laws. That might be because religions have had a lot to do with passing laws over the centuries. What religions are, all of them, is evil, immoral, unethical. I don't think you can blame the WTBTS for pedophiles, but you can blame them for setting up an organization that protects them. But other religions have done the same, it isn't only the WTBTS. Religions are also dangerous, the more secrecy and control, the more dangerous.

...so, therefore, would you classify all religions as “criminal”.

Innocent until proven guilty. Freedom of religion.

That's why they are still here after all these years. And why so many even worse organizations are allowed to operate. Government can't protect people from making stupid decisions. They couldn't begin to have the resources for that. It's up to each person to ensure they are not getting themselves and their families involved in an ethically challenged social group.
