Does God mind being called the wrong name?

  Since it is a well known fact that God's name is definitely NOT Jehovah, but this was a name only in 'operation' for the last few hundred years thanks to a Catholic Monk, doesn't the very jealous, bad tempered God of the OT mind being called, in effect, 'Fred' when his real name is 'George'.

  I would think that call anyone by a knowingly incorrect name is rude, rude, rude, so how does this bad tempered, psycopathic, mass murdering God of the OT feel about this transgression on the part of the WTBTS/Jehovah's Witnesses!!????

  Gill ok but George's Witnesses, Trevor's Witnesses or whatever. They wouldn't sound the same.

  Would a jw be offended if you decided to change his name? I so wanted to do that at a meeting with a jw from the hall, but I had bigger fish to fry that day.

  You are right on!

  I used to always get irritated when they would make fun of other religions who just called him, "God." In reality that was more respectful than calling him by, most likely, the wrong name. As humans I think most of us would rather be called "Mister" or "Sir" than some made up name..in fact it wouldn't make any sense.

  I used to argue with my elder study masters about that. They would always repy that the Israelites called him by a name and so should we. I would drive them nuts because I would tell them if He wanted to be called by a name then why didn't He give us a name instead of a crypto-puzzle? Why was it allowed to be lost? Of course they would just mumble about my lack of spirituality.

  Carla - So right! Anyone would be offended if you just decided to change their name for them!!

  BONEZZ- That's the thing that irritates! They are so obsessed that only they are right about everything and yet they can't even get God's name right! The Israelites name for God was YAHWEH, nothing much like Jehovah really. But perhaps their reasoning just reflects on their lack of intellect or lack of use of intellect.

  How can/does "God" have a "name?"

  Is that "IT's" name? I think not. Is that the NAME we apply to "IT"? I think so.

  In which case, how could "IT" be bothered by what name we apply to "IT"?

  It seems to be that "god" would only need a name if there were other gods, so you could distinquish one god from another.
