I like that "an attitude of gratitude"! That just about says it all for me too!

God just wants us to be happy and generous with others and not to sweat the small stuff.

Worship what? Worship whom? I don't worship anyone - I firmly believe everyone has the right to believe or not to believe - and I won't preach to you if you don't preach to me. I guess that sums up my 'religion.' As for living a spiritual life, which I take to mean not living like animals but using our higher nobler mind, trying to carry our own loads, pay our own way, do what kindnesses we can, share when we can, try not to harm others, have a good laugh every day. "Try" is the operative word - not always successful.

To worship you need a God. I haven't found one yet. There have been thousands of Gods through the years made up by humans and I don't like any of them. Maybe some day if there is one he will let me know if he wants worship or not.

I think the idea of worship has connotations of kissing ass, not freindship!

My idea of worship is looking upon the creator as a freind. One that you can talk to anytime about anything, and even get angry at him and he will never judge you. If you were an omnipotent being would you want something that you created to worship you? If you placed that being in a world of suffering and never showed your face, or gave feedback of any kind, would it seem reasonable to expect adulation or even freindship? How can we be freinds if you don't even wanna talk dude.?

If what God really wanted, was true freinds, and not ass kissers, who are threatened and scared, and really wanted to have a true freindship, why would he put such a violent, confusing and outdated book such as the bible in our faces.

How would you feel about freindship if you were God and held all the cards.? You could pull whatever shit you want with no accountability.

Perhaps in the end the best freinds of god will be those, who just try to be good for the sake of being good, never went to church, never preached but just lived their lives the best they could with love to their fellow man.

Well said (except for the typo ) But I agree. Religion teaches people how to brown-nose. Opening our hearts to those around us teaches us how to love.

    Hello everyone-

I often lurk here but hardly ever post, but I had to state my opinion on this topic

I never thought of the meaning of worship as a JW (all my life) until after I left. Of course after being a JW for a long time most people don't want to even think about going or joining a church but I actually attended my first church service about a year ago. My boyfriend convinced me to go with him. I must say that my feelings after attending was that I actually saw people "worshiping" in the true sense of the word (my definition anyway). I saw people praying heartfelt prayers, lots of emotion, singing with great feeling, people hugging one another, smiling (real smiles-not the phoney JW kind). I saw people being moved by the sermon -- these people (I felt) were really "worshipping". I have attended other churches too on a few occassions over the past year and I always come away with that same feeling... that these people are actually worshipping -- not just attending a meeting -- like I did going to the KH. There is a big difference. I am still not convinced that any church has the "truth" 100% but I do feel that people worship God in different ways but JWs don't really worship at all -- they only give "service" like one would give to a employer or something.
