That has to be the explanation, people getting tired and losing concentration, after all the normal concentration time span is around 50 minutes without a break, not several hours and especially of boring oft repeated talks.

These talks are usually given by circuit and district overseers - men who are in love with the sound of their own voices. When the assemblies are nearly over, they make the most of their opportunity. The end is close, and who knows when they'll be able to hear themselves so amplified again? Waking up the audience is incidental. We all know they don't give a shit for their audience. They just want to hear themselves!

The way memory works you generally take away only the last few moments of a public discourse. They make their last part louder and is the message they want you to take away and remember from the talk.

Actually people clapped more than 5 times a convention..It was more like 5 times per speaker if not more..You must have been asleep, along with the rest of us..LOL!!.....The clapping always reminded me of an auditorium of trained seals, clapping in unison for a "sardine treat".. It would be funny to see ushers walking around with buckets of fish for good JW Seals..LOL!!...OUTLAW

Instead they had the "new releases". I would have preferred the fish.

I always thought it was funny at conventions when they would use the same techniques and raise the voice to a thundering righteous decibel (when making no point at all) and still the audience would clap loudly and then realize they were clapping at an inappropriate time! He-he!
Why dont they just be honest and use applause cue cards!!!!! -
