It seems they are trying to convince the world they believe in Christ. Something I was always amazed about, as most people thought we did not and they would be confused as to how we could read the bible and not believe in Christ. Such ignorance! Of course, it was scary to ask any Witness what they believed as it lead to product placements and days on days of questions back at you.
I went to a DC a few years ago after seeing an "invitation to the public" to attend. Shortly after I arrived I was followed by their security guys and then interrogated by an elder and circuit overseer who wanted to know why I was there. (They were under the impression that only JWs are allowed to attend). Maybe it was my beard that tipped them off.
I showed them a print out of the Watchtower.org website where it said that the public was invited, and as soon as they saw it they told me that the Internet cannot be trusted because it is full of "apostates"... so I asked them if their own website was controlled by "apostates". (They didn't have much to say about that)
While there I was able to get in quite a bit of anti-Witnessing. I didn't have to approach any of the JWs as they cannot help but approach the poor un-saved worldly sinner like myself. Once they start talking I just steer the conversation toward the topic of Religious Freedom... something the JWs LOVE to talk about. What I like to do is get them talking about respecting people's religious beliefs and NOT persecuting them for having views that are different from most people. Ohhh boy do they like to talk about that! Once I get them committed to the idea of "don't hate others for having different beliefs" I then then start asking them about different JWs holding ideas that are different from what the Watchtower teaches..... damn... I've never seen anyone back-track on an idea so fast in my life!!!
I think free2beme has an important point. The Watchtower has been criticized for not putting the proper emphasis on Christ and relegating him to a minor role. One has to consider that this theme "Follow the Christ" is a reaction to this criticism. Now JWs can point to this as a rebuttal. Of course, it won't convince anyone who really knows how the organization is a substitute Christ for JWs.
I appreciate all your comments,Thanks.
My point was not so much on the theme of the convention, but the Hippocrates GB Leaders.
A few year back when they done away with the food serves. The food vendors wanted to serve food. The GB Leaders said"If this were permitted, many wordly people would be mixing in company with us durning the day."KM May 99.
Also a letter was read, that you req'd a badge to get into the convention. This I believe because they did not want any apostate in the building.Yes, they did have their own security guys with two-way radios.
That being said, there will be a campaign to invit the public. On the one hand they don't want the sheep mixing with the world on the other hand they invit the world.HIPPOCRATES.So we can do our thing and thumb our noses at the secuirity guys. Why all the counsel in the WT'S not to mixes with the world, you know useful habits are spoiled by GB.Soon they will have their own WT with a unique vocabulary. Why in Sam hell are they inviting the public who won't have a clue what the GB is talking about.

Is ``Follow The Christ" really the logo for this year's DCs? If so, it sould seem calculated to respond to the critics that charge (rightly) that for JWs, Jesus is little more than the Area Code they use when dialing up a prayer to The Big Guy. In fact, I've challenged my meeting-attending wife to keep a two-column note page and keep count on the frequency of references to (1) JC and (2) FDS) and to report back the results.
They really calling it "Follow the Christ"? I think they are trying to fool evangelicals into going to the convention. I bet you will find some subtle and NOT so subtle reaching out to that crowd. In our area, evangelical groups get big crowds, especially the womens groups, and we know how the JWs like women. . .to clean the halls and put in most of the hours door to door. I wonder how the convention might change in light of this? Anyone have any insights as to whether they are doing anything different? Cause the name is SO not JW-like.
I dont see anywhere in here where it says that "The Christ" includes MANY ENTITIES...seems to be singular to me. So if they are saying The Christ is the annointed...they got some splainin to do Lucy.

Christ
anointed, the Greek translation of the Hebrew word rendered "Messiah" (q.v.), the official title of our Lord, occurring five hundred and fourteen times in the New Testament. It denotes that he was anointed or consecrated to his great redemptive work as Prophet, Priest, and King of his people. He is Jesus the Christ (Acts 17:3; 18:5; Matt. 22:42), the Anointed One. He is thus spoken of by Isaiah (61:1), and by Daniel (9:24-26), who styles him "Messiah the Prince." The Messiah is the same person as "the seed of the woman" (Gen. 3:15), "the seed of Abraham" (Gen. 22:18), the "Prophet like unto Moses" (Deut. 18:15), "the priest after the order of Melchizedek" (Ps. 110:4), "the rod out of the stem of Jesse" (Isa. 11:1, 10), the "Immanuel," the virgin's son (Isa. 7:14), "the branch of Jehovah" (Isa. 4:2), and "the messenger of the covenant" (Mal. 3:1). This is he "of whom Moses in the law and the prophets did write." The Old Testament Scripture is full of prophetic declarations regarding the Great Deliverer and the work he was to accomplish. Jesus the Christ is Jesus the Great Deliverer, the Anointed One, the Saviour of men. This name denotes that Jesus was divinely appointed, commissioned, and accredited as the Saviour of men (Heb. 5:4; Isa. 11:2-4; 49:6; John 5:37; Acts 2:22). To believe that "Jesus is the Christ" is to believe that he is the Anointed, the Messiah of the prophets, the Saviour sent of God, that he was, in a word, what he claimed to be. This is to believe the gospel, by the faith of which alone men can be brought unto God. That Jesus is the Christ is the testimony of God, and the faith of this constitutes a Christian (1 Cor. 12:3; 1 John 5:1).

I was at the"leaky teepee" in West Palm last year for a DC and this year for a CA (but no, I am not from that area). You have to give my fellow dubs credit, it is very very nice, despite its current use. Much nicer than the Jai Lai place they used a number of years ago. They also use it for SAD and CA programs. At least it was the most comfortable (read that:easy to fall asleep) DC I ever attended. Air conditioned. All cushioned seating and carpeting on the floor seating area. Upper seating cushioned, dont remember there being carpet upstairs except maybe the aisles? Yes, they renamed it "Christian Convention Center". In light of the recent letters telling congos to go to Office Max to buy labels maybe OM should get naming rights. "The Office Max Christian Convention Center"... oh yeah... OM probably declined the "privilege". I was told WTBT$ sold part of the land to Home Depot (which is now next door) and made most of their money back (anyone confirm that story?). Makes sense if true.
Am I going to the DC this year? Maybe. Thought about splitting it up and going to 1 day at 3 different places. Gotta know what BS we are expected to tell people (even though I dont hardly bother now). Probably better show up to my own at least one day or otherwise "talk" will kick into high gear.

So, who is picketing this year in Tacoma, WA? I wanna go, I wanna go......
I know this is going to be ruff. BUT DON"T DO THAT ! It never works try writing an op ed or talk to the news paper or media when they print a story on the DC. Picketing or leafleting just feeds them. Go and tell your work mates any time some one brings up the Dub's Tell them you were one of them then say why you left that is the best way to fight them. Anything but picketing the DC it's self you don't want to help them.
