discussion of the new years text..from matthew..something or other
something about a yoke...something about coming for refreshment..

then we went into a series of experiences from people who went
conventions in france in italy...you know..stuff like
"I have never seen so many modestly dressed woman in one area"
actually this was the most of it...just experiences.

stand outs were the last two parts..the first of these
given by br. losch...the need for christians to be courageous in spite of opposition...and as you may be dissapointed...no mention was made of apostates..and he continued to denounce the U.N..

Br. Barr gave the final part..by this time many in the audience were asleep..he continued with the experiences from around the world..

nassau coliseum was packed out...there were people sitting in the hallways becuase there werent that many vacant seat in the coliseum.

    200 YEARS !

    That's stunning!

What a b****y joke this has become. If they stick with 1914, it would mean 'the time of the end' would be almost 300 years! That's a mighty long time for Jesus to waiting at his Father's side before waging war, ain't it! Even Bush only waited a month!

Also since the King was raised to heaven will have been 2,200 years and they appear to be saying that 'the last days' total 300 years which is 14% of the total time. Guess what? I reckon it's too long!

    Cheers,
    Ozzie

altho the 2 point you related from your grandmother are already the case arent they?

I don't know, Mox. They were news to me, so I just put it all out there. I'm sure there will be much interpretation and also variations from location to location as far as what was actually said.

I look forward to reading your synopsis.

What was he talking about when he mentioned this? Was he talking about the big A? If so, why would any of us need to worry abut this if it is 200 years off? And could you explain the 200 year thing better? Was he really saying that the end was 200 years off? Or was he just waffling so that most would not understand that is what he meant? I can't even imagine that if clearly stated that the end was that far off, that it didn't hit the JW brains there like a ton of bricks!! For all our lives and our parents lives, we have heard that the end is "near". We never expected to get into the 21st century! NOW it is 200 years away?! This type of talk would create another mass exit from JWdom like it did in the late 70's over the end supposedly ending in 1975. But maybe the Organization needs another "cleansing" with the wheat being cleaned of the shaft again? If this 200 year thing was said directly maybe that is why so many left early at the Silverdome in Michagan. They couldn't get out fast enough, showing there disgust.

    nytelecom1,
Beyond belief? You are kidding right? What did I say that was stretched or beyone belief? I said nothing new that the Society and ones in it have not already experienced.
The WTBTS is known for stretching things beyond belief, not me! I was asking for clarification and comparing what was done in the 1970's. Talk about beyond belief, those were the days when it really started. I, for one lived through those times and saw how far beyond belief the Society has already gone, and for some dumb reason, I stayed even longer. Don't say I ran with what was said. What was said was said. I asked questions and got no answers. I did speculate, but only in commparison to what happened before when this same type of information came about in the past, as in the 70's, and said the same things would happen again if the 200 year thing was a fact, thus my asking if it was a fact. I would hardly say I stretched anything at all, the Society already has done that for us all. To so many of us, this is Societal history repeating itself.

Before this gets out of hand and turns into an urban legend, I'd like more clarification about this statement:

And the other GB (fill in the name) who talked about being in the new world "in two hundred years"

What was the context? Remember, they believe they will be in the new world in three hundred years as well. And in four hundred years, and five hundred years, and ten-thousand years, and...

He did NOT say Armageddon is two hundred years away.

" no tape recorders, no video recorders and no computer note taking"

Why are they so hung up about no record being made of what was said?

Why did they require tickets in order to be admitted?

I think the real answers to these questions has yet to be made.

Ahhh...memories of the Silverdome, from my first convention at five years of age to the last at twenty-six.

....selling food tickets back in the day....being told my cash box was short two days in a row (I was just bad at math, not good at nicking)

    ...."smilin, stylin' and profilin'"

....Hoagies *gag* (I have a classic photo of a friend at around age 13, showing me a nasty boulice (sp?) shot of a hoagie. She dreaded the convention food and was glad not to eat it much longer after that picture, as her family faded away from the Borg.)

....Cheese Danish...MMM! (Stupid, but I still crave those sometimes.)

....Walking around the Dome several times with my now-ex-husband, then fiance (not holding hands of course!) because he was a bit shy in the bathroom. He stopped at every one of them, but couldn't go. Should have told me something...oh well. Live and learn.

....Incessant, unbearable heat, humidity, and B.O.

....Watching the elders keep a hawk's eye on any who went to "The Main Event" for lunch, to mark them as weak for not eating the Borg food rations.

....The year we had to share with the motocross running simultaneously on the other side of the large curtain dividing the dome. At least there was something interesting to watch, and if you weren't at a good angle to see, the fumes might at least make the convention seem a bit more interesting.

Ahhh....memories. Glad they are way the fark in the past. ;)

    Cheers,

I know this is gonna sound like it's comming from from WAY out in left field but I seriously predict that within the next year or two that WTS will announce that the new system has already arrived. Just pause a few minuets and think about it; they really could pull it off!

    later,

" no tape recorders, no video recorders and no computer note taking"
Why are they so hung up about no record being made of what was said?
Why did they require tickets in order to be admitted?
I think the real answers to these questions has yet to be made.

Why this meeting in October? My thoughts are: They are trying to create a self fulfilling prophecy. They have done this in the past. Seven trumpet blasts back 80 years or so ago. Walking around Jericho seven times in 1974. See KMs of that year, when for seven months in a row, publishers were asked to make a big effort to distribute a vast number of pamphlets each month. That was the instructions in Canada, I don’t know whether it was world wide.

In the Isaiah books or March 1, WT they explained that the faithful one would be preserved by entering into his interior room to escape the time of distruction. They portrayed a picture of a family climbing stairs to their bedroom, father taking the lead, in the times of Isaiah.. They also explained that the interior rooms of today are the Kingdom Halls.

So these meetings were a demonstration of the faithful, entering into their interior rooms.

They also probably had the parable of Jesus in Math 22 in mind. Here the King has a wedding feast, upon inspection of the guests he finds one not dressed properly. He is booted outside. So it is only invited guests that are allowed, and the wedding feast information is only for the faithful, so no tape recorders etc.

Why was this event a non-event. The so called apostates stole their thunder. Advanced publicity from these discussion boards, revealed to them that it is impossible to keep out intruders, and it is impossible for them to keep secret any information for their faithful flocks alone.

There is NOTHING they can keep secret anymore.

One added point. When the planes hit the WTC, what was done immediately at Brooklyn Bethel? They drew all the curtains and locked the doors. I believe they thought this was Armageddon and they were entering into their interior rooms!

I just received this, so I'm adding it to the thread:

Subject: Special Talk on September 30 2001

Hi, Everyone! We had a special talk today, and I just wanted to share
some of the key points. This may ramble on a bit, because I am writing as I remember, and my notes are never in order, either.

We had a talk given by a speaker from Brooklyn Bethel. He has been at
Bethel since the 1950's. Originally slated to be given in August, this
brother had to go abroad for several weeks, and the talk was postponed.
Are we ever glad of that! A new talk was written, and given, and words
cannot express my gratitude to the governing body for allowing him to
come down to NC. The talk was given in a public park in Greensboro,
outside (everyone brought chairs, lunch and blankets)and six
congregations were officially invited, with others allowed to come, including the public. 1067 people showed! I got there about five minutes before it started, and there was a "sea" of people already there. I was in the lastrow when it started. By the time it ended, there were 5-10 rows behind me!
