My wife and I have gone on 2 cruises and we are both big fans.
We chose a crusie line that has freestyle eating arrangments which means that you can eat at any time you want, without assigned seating. You can also eat at one of 9 different resturants on the ship that are on par with an upscale resturant in a major city for an additional cost.
Since eating is a big deal on vacation for us, we always had dinner in one of the resturants and we usually drank good wine or scotch.
We also chose a suite instead of a cabin since we knew that unless we took an excursion off the ship, most of our time would be spent in our rooms.
It is not cheap, we probable spent about $3,000 per person, but we only take one big vacation a year so we save up for it.
That last time we took our 20 year old daughter and a relative and they found ways to enjoy themselves without our supervision.
I highly recommend cruises.
