Depends on one's definition of "trouble". What is normal to most "worldly" people constitutes trouble for a JW.

Going to see R-rated movies at the theater is nothing to a person of the world, but definitely worthy of an elder's meeting in the JW religion.

Having too much to drink on a special occasion is no big deal to most people (as long as you don't cheat on a spouse or drive drunk) but being intoxicated will get you in trouble with the elders.

As fas as trouble with the law, no I've never had that happen. The worst for me would be having open containers in the car or smoking a little weed now and then, but I've not gotten caught. I have enjoyed things that previously I would not have shared in...strip clubs, dance clubs, long nights at the bar, partying with neighbors and new friends.

I've also taken more interest in how the political system works. Not enough to get too worked up about it, but enough to know how it works and I have been willing to stand up and be counted in certain things in my local community that would affect me personally. That's not trouble as far as normal folks are concerned but it is for a JW.

I have heard some JWs say things like, "See what happens when you leave the truth, you get mixed up with those worldly people who pull you into their evil world" when speaking about how I am willing to watch, read or listen to things that as a JW I might would have avoided. What gets me about that, is that they think that since I now read all kinds of books and magazine, listen to "debasing" music, watch R-rated movies, or keep up with political issues and speak opinions of things happening in the community I have"relaxed" my standards, when in fact, I think I'm more open-minded now, willing to look beyond my own knowledge and open to learning before forming an opinion. I feel that I've become more enlightened and am becoming more tolerant of those who don't think like me or see things the same way.. My prejudices have actually lessened, something that most JWs would find hard to believe. I'm realizing that the world is not so black and white as JWs see it and I'm trying to learn how to be tolerant of all the shades of gray that surround me.

Nope - not even a speeding ticket (not that I haven't deserved one) See I have sort of a heavy foot, but I had that too when a JW.

PS - I was just guilty of hijacking BlackSwan's thread for one post. Sorry hon.

    well...hmmm...where to start.

First off, got that forbidden 'education' at the den of sin...the University.

Got parts of my skin covered in ink, to make it easier for "God" to identify me as one of the wicked to be destroyed at the Armageddon-fest.

I committed heinous acts of fornication, like holding hands, kissing, and being alone with my now husband. ;)

I swear, I drink in public with the sole intent of getting inebrieated, I hang out with ::gasps:: Catholics from time to time!

and I think the worst of all sins is that I think for myself and question! Doubting Thomas doesn't have anything on me, when I get into the mode to say, "Why, why, why?" :)
