    Zagor,

Great comments, but I would add...

I find it hard to believe that all those people are wrong and one scientist is right even if he is a professor from MIT, so what?!?

Accually, there are many scientist who think we are not the creators of the warming.

"The Great Global Warming Swindle." Through interviews with prize-winning climate experts and others, this masterful documentary explains the origins of global warming alarmism; debunks claims of man-made global climate change; exposes the motivations of organizations, scientists and activists sounding the alarm; and explains why it's been extremely difficult, if not downright dangerous, for climate scientists to question global warming orthodoxy publicly."

    WHY SKEPTICISM IS SOUND

    Monday, April 09, 2007

In the global warming debate the big issues is whether what human beings do contributes significantly to global warming. That global warming is occurring is not much in dispute, although some scientists do make a good deal of the point that there have been warming periods in the past, some of them far greater than those being recorded in our time. There has of course been steady global warming, on average, since as the earth evolved it was at certain early times, following the initial cooling, covered with ice and quite uninhabitable by anything alive. Warming was a precondition to the emergence of life. But the warming never increased steadily and there have been periods of both, warming and cooling all along. Even after serious warming had commenced, there were long periods during which cold spells reemerged. (The most up to date picture of this can be found at http://www.scotese.com/climate.htm and indicates a volatile history, with coolings as well as warmings throughout the last 500 millions years, with a huge span of cooling during the last 4 million, the renewed warming.)

There are many scientists who do not dissagree with the FACT that the earth is warming... so is Mars!

There is warming our planet, but I have a hard time believing we started and that we can stop it. I say spend the money on learning to live in our world as she changes.

    "so is Mars!"

How is this relevant? Should the scientist working on the IPCC survey quit their work if I forward them this revelation from a poster on JWD? Should they say "oh well, that settles it, let's go home"? Because that seems to be the point you're trying to make when you throw it into the conversation. Should we assume that "as mars goes, so goes earth"? That seems beyond stupid to me.

You might have a point if there were climate scientist out there claiming stupid stuff, like that the earth is not warmed by the sun, or that earth's climate never changes naturally, but that isn't what climate scientist are claiming wrt their many decades long look at ghg's and climate.

I never ceased to be amazed at how many who respond to these Global Warming threads still don't get the debate:

It's NOT about whether there is Global Warming, that is accepted as fact, just as in the future there will be, and in the past there were, periods of Global Warming and Global Cooling.

It IS about whether humans are causing a significant amount of the warming, and if so, how much, and exactly what humans are doing to cause it.

IF humans cause a substantial (let's say, 25%) of Global Warming this time around:

    WHAT is causing it?

    Is it Greenhouse gases (GHGs)?

If so, which ones, and what do we do to reduce them?

Is it the altered surface reflectivity of the earth due to human practices such as agriculture and consuming forests?

If so, what do we do to reduce the surface reflectivity?

Is it some other human produced source(s)?

If so, which ones, and what do we do to reduce them?

What is known is that these cycles are natural, and they happen with or without mankinds interference, as they undoubtedly will this time around.

BA- Plan for warming. If you live in the lowlands, moving might be your best option. Then again, we could just as easily see things take a turn for the cooler before things get that bad.

PS- We'll have to wait and see.

Bryan: "Accually, there are many scientist who think we are not the creators of the warming."

And yet, astonishingly, none of them seem to be able to produce, or cite, any peer-reviewed research or studies to support their claims.

Meanwhile, tens of thousands of scientists working in that field are able to do so, and their consensus is nearly unanimous.

Arguing against thousands of trained professionals using the scientific method with "I have a hard time believing..." is riding a concrete block hobby-horse-- the only person getting their ass bloodied is you.

    dilaceratus,

You might want to check your "facts" before you put your foot in your mouth again.

You might want to try researching those threads as well as using Google to find out what isn't known, what isn't modeled, how accurate those models are, and therefore what really is known.

BA- This subject's been beat to death by armchair scientists, methinks.

PS- "Concensus" is politico-speak for "Premature Conclusion"

I'm glad that action was taken regarding the acid rain problem instead of lay-people sitting around, pissing up a rope until they're blue in the face, demanding ever higher levels of "proof" that humans are causing it, how much of it is our doing, on and on.

"For now I do what I can; saving rainwater, flouresent bulbs, etc."

I find it semi-amusing when folks claim that they are 'doing their part' by using fluorescent lamps.

One question that I have is... how do you dispose of the fluorescent bulbs when they go bad, burn out, or whatever.

If you answer something like... "I toss them in the garbage" then you are guilty of disposing of hazardous waste in the local landfill - which might as well be as bad as polluting the earth.

    http://www.p2pays.org/mercury/lights.asp

You see, fluoresecent bulbs contain mercury. This is needed to get them to work. Mercury is not a nice substance that we can just toss out with yesterday's garbage. It needs to be sent to a hazardous waste collection site. (The mercury in the bulbs could eventually get into the water supply.)

Spend some time reading the second article listed... it is revealing.

Me? I use fluorescent bulbs too. I haven't tossed out any bad ones though... not sure what to do with them, yet.

I also am at the beginning stages of using Hi-power LEDs, solar panels, and 12V SLA (sealed lead acid) batteries. LEDs are the lighting source for tomorrow.

Sorry to have interrupted your rants. I just wanted to try to educate yall on some of the hidden dangers of fluorescents.

    Regards,

It seems almost impossible to believe that you would not be mortified by these embarrassing threads you have participated in, let alone advertise them-- where in them do you feel you scored any advantage?

You might also have noticed a comment of my own in one of them, indicating my previous familiarity.

Your own seeming lack of knowledge regarding a similar, current thread, with the same dreary cast of characters and scary lack of knowledge, on this board, http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/132263/4.ashx, but with the advantage of my own somewhat more active participation, might have been useful before deciding to issue your rebuke.

Of course, it is hard to "put your foot in your mouth" when it is engaged in emitting such shining beacons of knowledge and wisdom as "PS- We'll have to wait and see."

Mars is not getting warmer because of increased output from the Sun. We are actually just entering the solar minimum in the solar cycle, and solar output has been decreasing very slightly since 2001.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_cycle

The changes in the Martian temperature can be accounted for by the dustorms causing changes in the reflectivity of the surface of Mars.
