    phone second

    1) SHOUTING and vulgar or threatening hand gestures

    2) Loud silence

    3) crying

    4) symbols of death (usually roses or rabbits)

    5) Skywriting (banners are ok, if no suitable skywriters available)

    6) Intermediaries (usually a judge or lawyer, sometimes regular law enforcement personel)

    7) email

I love Windows Live Messenger, but you have to type as fast as the one you're communicating with. The smilies make the communication look as real as if you were there in person.

Emails are great if the person you're communicating with like to write long enough emails. Some just write a few words and put no title to their email.

LOL on SixONine's List of 7, the police, lawyers, etc. Funny.

    ------------

Nosferatu - I agree not only with every single word you wrote, but down to EVERY letter! (How can that be... You're a youngin' at 29, I'm middle of the road at 54)...

    1. Interruptions, can't stand 'em, they mess up my concentration, and I have to start all over.
    2. HATE a ringing phone! Grrrr! Startles my adrenaline! My ringer has been turned off for years, lol.
    3. Can't stand talking on a phone any more either, even though I did it ENDLESSLY in years past (something's changed!)
    4. Now prefer face to face for communicating (email in between, but for long talks, face to face).

    -------------------

    Things REALLY have changed.

Remember when Call-Waiting first came out? Oh I had to have it.

Years later, I hated it, got rid of it.

When fax machines came out, wanted one so bad, finally had one and a 2nd line for it. Eventually got rid of all that.

Used to talk on the phone hours and hours on end, for years and years.

Now I can't stand talking on the phone.

Is it middle age, or being spoiled by the internet, or what? (I LOVE PEACE & QUIET!)

A little of both, plus different priorities, I think.

(Never did like interruptions, being startled, or unexpected visitors showing up at the door. So that's all the same).

    ---------------

Oh well, don't mind me, carry on!

    ;-)

That's why I've never done IM. I already know I can't process that fast (think fast on the spot and keep up). Who needs the pressure! I do like all the fun smilies, though!

How true about no title. Totally weird. Writing "Headlines" are the most fun part of writing an email. It's a challenge to come up with a "catch 'em" title in just a few words... used to work for a newspaper, writing headlines is actually a big thrill, lol.

I have found that drumming morse code on a persons forehead with a wall gets an immediate response.

Face to face communication is more real and emotionally gratifying but online communication can also be a good substitute of this if some people hate typing there are now plenty of free voice communication facilities which is like using a phone or of course there are webcams that give audiovisual contact.
