JWs in Unlikely Marriages

A few weeks back I had the pleasure in meeting a Druid.

Chatting away about all things spiritual he informed me that he was married to a JW. Imagine my surprise.

I would've thought that the mere sight of a Druid on the horizon would be enough to send a Dub running for his or her anti demon/pagan bomb shelter.

It transpired that they had been married for over 20 years and that things were quite harmonious. But what an unlikely partnership I thought.

I then started thinking about some of the non believing partners who used to come along to the Hall from time to time or who would be at social events. There was one guy, a wealthy farmer, who was married to a Sister but thought the whole WT thing was definitely not for him.

A generous and hospitable guy, he often threw barbecues for his wife's JW friends, but never tempered his true self, often getting pretty drunk, telling crude jokes and swearing like a trooper. Still the holy Dubs were never put off, possibly weighing up the free food, booze and entertainment.

Did you see some unlikely husband and wife teams? Particularly if one was "a non believer?"

Ones I have seen over the years are unbelieving wealthy men with JW wives. I am sure alot of a JW wife is appealing but I just never did get it. I understand the wife wanting the husband......best of both worlds.

The dubs just like everyone else are willing to be more flexible with the rules when their is something free on offer. They take it from the org who work in a similar pattern, they don't mind some tobacco or military technology shares or working with Babylon the Great (as they see it) to save money on taxes.

The first person to come to mind was a sister in my old hall who was divorced with two boys who married a second time to a very famous and very wealthy man (whose name I cannot divulge)
They lived in the mansion on the hill. She attended meetings as she could. Her boys actually pioneered in their late teens. He bought them both Mercedes Benz coupes to pioneer with. He also paid for their Stanford Schooling. The famous man attended a couple of times when each son gave a talk in the school. The sister did her best to keep her foot in some service and meetings and was always a very poised but private person.

Another sister had 6 children and was married to an elder. That marriage fell apart LIKE A TORNADO HIT IT. When the dust settled and the brother went to jail and the sister got out of the mental hospital, and the sons went off to do military service and the girls had their babies out of wedlock, then the sister remarried a very nice and supportive Muslim man who accompanied her to the meetings complete with Turban.

Well I knew one witness who was pretty much a hippie really free-spirited. The one time I met her mate I expected to meet some whacked out crazy hippie guy, but he was like mr. no-personality, really uptight. I figured of the 2, he would be the JW.

Then there are the 40-year age difference couples we see up here in the North country due to the lack of a diverse gene pool. It usually involves a girl in her 20's with a man in his 50's or 60's who has either lost his wife or never married. There are also obvious homosexuals who don't know what else to do with themselves so marry someone they can get along with the best they can.

Thanks for your contributions folks. I was hoping someone could better the ~Druid/JW love conquers all thing~, but no Witch/Elder marriages to report then? Maybe witches are a bit too discerning?

    Sorry Clam - no witches......

Two couples I knew personally - JWs all. Two African American sisters, one married to a foreign brother, who spoke no English, she no "foreign" tongue. The other AA sister, married a Carribean brother, who wanted children IMMEDIATELY [part of the culture] and she not. Funny they didn't discuss this beforehand. Divorce followed.
The former couple must've found some way to communicate. All four were in my congregation.
More exciting marriage news next time - maybe!

    My parents.

Mom's devout, my dad thinks the dubs are crazy.

However my dad made a good living, never stopped my mom form doing her own thing, and it allowed my mom to be the spiritual head and she could do her witness thing and be materialistic at the same time.

I've always thought that if my dad ever became a dub, mom would have left him.

    She liked being in control.
